"Now on paper the diablosaurus genuinely sounds like a dinosaur that was imagined from a child asked to make their own dinosaur from scratch. At first it basically looks like just a flat-out dinosaurian rhinoceros.... but it makes sense since in nature smaller animals in specific groups tend to be more aggressive overall from the honey badger in Africa to the domestic chihuahua found across various cities and even dinosaurs are no exception to this rule especially on skull island. This animal from a paleontological perspective gives us a glimpse into an odd but not impossible niche certain sauropods could have evolved into had the KPG extinction event never occurred and could have easily attained a niche held by modern rhinos" - Gerald Tinsley Paleozoologist on the nature of the diablosaurus 1983.
In the natural world every major animal family that has a large selection of species are bound to have outliers. It can be found in both living and extinct animals for bears their outlier is the herbivorous panda bear while the crocodilians have the fish specialized Gharial. What both of these examples have in common is that unlike the rest of their families that had due to newfound selective pressures been forced to undergo adaptation to better suited to niche their genus isn't as a collective known for. Even on skull island this rule also applies as many groups of animals have certain species that for all intents and purposes are bizarre even by the bizarre standards of the landmass. With one such example being the topic of this article the DIABLOSAURUS RUFUVOLTUS the red-faced devil lizard.
Now for those who have been reading these logs onto the various animals of skull island the appearance of diablosaurus for the uninitiated will come as a very bizarre surprise compared to every other dinosaur one may have read up on so far and do not worry there is an explanation. Visually the diablosaurus is for all intents and purposes the very idea of an outdated and scientifically inaccurate dinosaur from the early 20th century put into a 25-ton body that can be as big as a V rex in length. Even its own coloration matches up with preconceived notions of how dinosaurs were practically any color imaginable but despite all this the origins of the diablosaurus is based on pure science.
Officially the diablosaurus is one of the more well documented animals by the foundation on skull island having been discovered during the 1935 expedition to skull island. At the time of its discovery diablosaurus was a very controversial dinosaur amidst foundation paleontologists of the era as its conflicting appearance caused many heated and fiery debates and arguements over its ancestry ranging from a ceratopsian that had lost its frill to a plate less stegosaur to finally the more longstanding one that was, until genetic analysis cleared it up, a species of dinosaur that was entirely unique to skull island. Ultimately the answer would be revealed around 70 years later in 2005 following excavations in the skull island bone beds along with genetic analysis of the animal was able to finally reveal its identity and It was both surprising as well as a revelation at the time.
The reality is the Diablosaurus is actually a highly derived sauropod which unlike its family has almost entirely shrunken its neck and tail to the point they are almost entirely unrecognizable as a sauropod. At first this quite a odd revelation as the main reason sauropods evolved long necks in the first place was to reach food sources inaccessible to most other contemporary dinosaurs that they lived alongside. In nature though any possible trait can vanish if the circumstances are precise and specific enough over a long period of time such was the case for the back legs for cetaceans like whales and dolphins who gradually lost them and only have vestigial bones buried in their bodies. Thus after the discovery was made it now would make sense for diablosaurus is in fact a member of the Dicraeosaurid family
Dicreaosaurids, for those unaware, Are a subfamily of sauropods found within the diplodocidae family which are speculated to have emerged sometime in the early to middle Jurassic period in North America that spread into what is now Gondwana (Gondwana being a supercontinent that consisted of what is now South America, Africa, Antartica, Australia, New Zealand and the Indian sub continent) with them being found , as of the current time of this file in 2023, primarily in South America, Central Africa and recently India with their currently being some debate over on whether they were still around in north America that is unresolved as of this time. What made the dicraeosaurids distinct from their fellow diplodocids, as well as practically ALL other sauropod dinosaurs as a whole, was that Dicraeosaurids had proportionally very shortened necks that were more wider with more larger heads and reduced body sizes with the average size of their clade tending to be 30 to 39 feet or 10 to 13 meters in length from head to tail.
Full reasoning for why this was the case is currently unknown as the dicraeosaurids as a clade only have 6 confirmed species with another 5 that are still in the middle of being properly categorized meaning not much is still known about them but what has been pieced together is that dicraeosaurids were a very specialized group of sauropods where their neck size shortened as its speculated that they were primarily forest dwelling animals that would have sacrificed the lengths of their necks to better allow themselves to maneuver through denser forests more easier in search of food as their larger heads and smaller sizes meant they could feed on vegetation that grew primarily on the ground or was mid level that is believed to be a result of niche partitioning with other herbivores in their habitat such as the case for Dicreaosaurus itself in the fossil formations of Tanzania where it shared its habitat with, one of the ancestors of what would one day be the atercurisaurus, the kentrosaurus.
When exactly the ancestor of diablosaurus got onto skull island is still currently unknown as the dicraeosaurids are a very niche and obscure group in the fossil record where not a lot is known about them to the point what the actual ancestor was is still uncertain even with genetic analysis it has only picked up trace amounts of DNA correlation to the most smallest dicraeosaurid Brachytrachelopan where it is hypothesized that like with its contemporary the atercurisaurus it more than likely hybridized with other species of dicraeosaurid by interbreeding with them over millions in response to the myriad of predators and dangers on the island to their current state. What exactly the Brachtrachelopan interbred with is still unknown as the fossil record for skull island is incomplete and still being dug up even by the time this file is published so until more information is known we can only assume that the diablosaurus is a mix of various dicraeosaurid sauropod species that interbred with one another to the point diablosaurus itself came into being.
Regardless of where it came from the modern diablosaurus has taken the traits of its ancestors and has incorporate new abilities to better survive the ecologically competitive nature of skull island and its myriad of hazards. When the ancestors of diablosaurus arrived it was more than able to slip into its niche as no other large herbivore held the niche and was able to monopolize it uncontested before then the asperdorsus evolved and now had to face competition but was able to niche partition by feeding primarily off ground and low level vegetation. Thus the diablosaurus is primarily found in the forests that fill the area between open areas and the more inner and deeper labyrinthine jungles of the island meaning that they are able to be seen if you wish to stay clear of the denser and more dangerous jungles. But unlike asperdorsus ,which for the most part, lives relatively peacefully do to being so far away from other predators diablosaurus on the other hand is not so fortunate as it dwells in more open areas frequented my deadly predators.
In direct response the diablosaurus would over millions of years develop hardened crusted armor on its back consisting of osteoderms, spikes and scutes that run across most of the upper back of the animal that is unevenly spread compared to the large and jagged evenly spread spikes of the asperdorsus. It is believed due to its shorter neck and tail being far less vulnerable it incentivized more focus onto the back where most attacking predators would try to go for. Therefore, the armor is short yet strong being fairly concentrated and going across most of the upper body of the animal from the base of the neck to the tail. The exact arrangement of the armor on the diablosaurus however seems to vary wildly from animal to animal meaning no two armors are alike with the height of their spikes ranging from as long as a human fingernail from the base to end to the height of a very tall man with the only constant being larger spikes are more on the animals center back with a line of spikes going up from the tail to the end of the neck.
The most iconic spikes however are not found on the back but rather the head. At the end of the animals snout is a prominent pair of two horns that gives the animal its name of Devil lizard. In terms of arrangement the horns are overall like that of an African rhino as well as structure too as the horns are solid bone that is connected to the skull that is wrapped in a layer of keratin to the point that the largest horns can sometimes exceed 6 to 7 feet in height in the eldest individuals where it will constantly grow throughout the animal's life. The reason how the diablosaurus developed its horn is due to the shrinking of its neck and tail it needed a means to properly defend itself due to its small size as a sauropod and is believed to have developed it by eating some of skull island's bone fruits (see the file for the atercurisaurus for reference) that it slowly over millions of years developed the horns as a tool for defense against predators.
Thus when the neck and tail shortened the muscles that were present would be redistributed across the body primarily to the head and neck to strengthen it. As well as the neck it also meant that muscles also increased in the legs of the animal to allow it to actually be able to charge surprisingly fast for its size with recorded instances by researchers in the field ranging from 35 to 45 miles per hour (56 to 72 Kilometers per hour) depending on the size or age of the animal making it faster than near every species of extant rhino alive today. Unlike rhinos however the vision of a diablosaurus is exceptionally more developed in comparison as a result of living on a landmass with so much danger warranting better senses overall to detect predators that can lurk just about anywhere. As well as having immense weight it also means it can push down and knock over trees to ensure that it has a clear amount of area that makes it so any predator can't be able to sneak up on it.
In fact the diablosaurus because of its muscle mass is considered roughly on par with the pure powerful charging force of the ceratopsian ferrucutus. Their difference however lies in the way they use their force in conjunction with their cranial structure. for the ferrucutus due to the horns not being like the diablosaurus focuses primarily on pure impact where the sheer force can cause bones to shatter and organs to rupture in the victim of its charge. Diablosaurus on the other hand because of having two main horns that serve as the two main points for stabbing impact means it focuses onto penetration rather than blunt force with the neck muscles being able to withstand the immense kinetic energy generated from hitting any unfortunate predator that happens to be at the receiving ends of its horns.
Injury wise the horns are capable of fully penetrating through the strongest of bones and armor just as easily as it uses them to ram through rocks and trees to knock them down to get at food sources it cannot access or knock it down to be able to create a makeshift dam to allow a river to become shallow enough for it to safely cross without worry of its vulnerable underside being attacked by the myriad of aquatic predators that swim the depths of skull island's river channels. For smaller animals that are lucky they simply get thrown by the force of the horns but the unlucky ones are killed outright by the horns if they penetrate through their bodies but those who avoid the horns will get trampled and viciously stomped into a puddle of gore by the sauropods massive legs with the front ones bearing sharp single spikes while the back ones bear 3 toed claws which while mainly used for digging through the ground are more than able to rip any unfortunate small animal to ease.
Larger animals however are when it gets really violent as unlike most sauropods who are gentle giants the temperament of a diablosaurus is VERY aggressive when it faces an animal it perceives as a threat as it is one of the few animals that will make a fully grown VREX think twice about attempting to bring down an enraged adult. Mainly since while not a very smart animal the diablosaurus is knows enough to know what the weak spots of a large theropod are and will deliberately attempt to ram and impale the legs to trip it before finishing it with either a stab to the gut or the head as the horns are long enough to penetrate the skull and into the brain to kill the carnivore. And because of their height and how strong their back armor is they are more than able to shake off a vrex bite to its back as well as any other equally sized theropod of similar build as well as being on average shorter than a v rex means they are able to stay out of reach of the massive jaws of the tyrannosaur.
However, in the event it does manage to kill a threatening predator is when a rather.... unexpectedly event can take place. You see bone fruits while they are eaten by diablosaurus are very infrequent in the habitats it dwells in being primarily focused in the deeper jungles of skull island in places too uncomfortable for the diablosaurus to travel into given how the more denser forest floor has all manner of stealthy ambush predator that can leap out and strike the more vulnerable underside means it cannot afford to take as many risks like its distant relative the asperdorsus can. However here is where things get more disturbing as diablosaurus while herbivorous is VERY intelligent and through careful observation it was then found that diablosaurus do occasionally eat carrion from the carcasses of dead animals it comes across or kills.
Now for researchers at the time this was a rather startling discovery to make since sauropods as a family are ALL herbivores with no evidence of any believed to partake in even omnivorous feeding but after later analysis as well as looking through both the fossil record as well as animals found off of skull island there is actually some grain of reason to this. In their evolutionary history the sauropods before they became obligate quadrupedal herbivores were originally during the Triassic period bipedal animals known as Prosauropods who like other early dinosaurs during that period were omnivorous generalists due to the harsh and resource restrained world that the dinosaurs appeared in following the wake of the Permian great dying. However as the Triassic proceeded into the Jurassic the earth became more prosperous and the prosauropods would revert back to being 4 legged animals due to them focusing on herbivory. because of the anomalous energies of skull island it is believed that the omnivorous nature long lost in sauropods somehow reawakened in the ancestors of what would become Wdiablosaurus where they would actually feed on carcasses where its believed the minerals in the bones and the proteins in the flesh actually help to provide necessary nutrients for the animal in harsh times.
In fact its now believed that the red headed appearance of diablosaurus, which was initially believed to have evolved as a form of predator deterrence, is actually the continued staining of its head with actual blood as the skin cells in its pores are able to directly filter in the chemicals of blood spilled onto the animals head which over millions of years of breeding and evolution has resulted in the diablosaurus species to possess a crimson colored head with females having a more dark maroon colored head while the males are a more brighter blood red serving as a form of sexual dimorphism in the species. This in turns helps to give the diablosaurus a intimidating appearance to any would be predator of it as despite the coloration both sexes possess the same sized horns meaning healthy adults are very risky for a predator to take down with the infants being different.
Like their larger and more numerous relative the Brontosaurus Baxteri, the diablosaurus has become viviparous meaning they birth live young as a result of the plethora of predators that target egg laying dinosaur's nests and their hatchlings. When born the infant diablosaurus are more vulnerable as their armor isn't fully developed and as such are directly raised by its parents who will raise them in a manner like wild cattle or rhinos being before they eventually leave them at around 5 years where in herd where they will live as mostly solitary animals, but small herds do develop though they rarely exceed a two-digit number. In their sociality diablosaurus are overall more social than asperdorsus but not to the level of the brontosaurus being right in the middle where while they are solitary or live in close family units they are very tolerant of one another as their greater intelligence has made them more realizing of caring for the rest of its species to the point that there have been observed cases of unrelated diablosaurus adopting the infants of those who lost their parents and raising them as their own in a manner not dissimilar to what herds of African elephants have been observed to do outside of skull island.
As for their social lives diablosaurus live very rich lives with one another if they are able to form herds are very tight knit with family groups having been observed that can consist of grand parents, infants and other relatives with larger family groups being more prevalent in more thriving and prosperous areas while lone individuals or just two animals being more commonplace in more ecologically depleted areas. Socially diablosaurus are very openly tolerant of one another despite how aggressive they can be in combat where unrelated animals seem to actually not mind the company of one another where both genders get along with one another as well as the same sex to the point no deliberate violence between two animals has ever been recorded by the foundation ever since the animal was first discovered back in 1935. The only cases where this isnt true is entirely a case of mistaken identity when two animals are unable to see one another if they are in a area heavily filled with fog or other visually blurring forces.
overall the diablosaurus so long as a respectful distance is maintained and a calm dameanor is upheld will generally tolerate most other herbivores and other smaller animals in its area where diablosaurus that live in the jungles will tolerate pugiodorsus, ligocristus, ankylosaurs, atercurisaurus and other herbivorous dinosaurs. In wetlands diablosaurus are one of the few animals that can live peacefully alongside the native skull island hippo along with the various semi aquatic creatures do to it feasting on the myriad of large trees that grow in more shallow waters of the wetlands. Here because of its size as well as its ability to walk and wade through shallow water it is used by the myriad of birds, lizards, small dinosaurs, insects and monkeys as a means to safely travel through the shallow waters of the wetlands that have predators that can eat them but not the diablosaurus where in return they can provide themselves as a pest cleaning service to get rid of any parasites that plague the sauropod. And finally for diablosaurus that inhabit the more open forest near the skull island plains they overall will exhibit the most aggression out of the species due to living in areas more frequented by the vrex but also suffer from parasites more often which it deals with by frequenting the vast termite mounds that frequent the plains and will brush itself against the mounds like the ferrucutus where the termites will attack the parasites but totally unaffect the sauropod as a whole.
Across skull island the average size of a diablosaurus will vary depending upon the habitat it is in. The smallest diablosaurus will range on average 35 feet long and 15 feet tall and are primarily found in the most deepest and twisted sections of the jungles of skull island and are by far the most rarest ones to find due to their location in the most labyrinthine forests making them very risky to find due to all the many hidden predators that lurk in the dark forests below the canopy. Moving out from the jungles and to the more open forests is the most common variant being the forest diablosaurus which range in height to around 25 feet tall and can be 40 to 45 feet length as the space is free enough but filled with many large predators that large size is a required trait to survival and thus are the most armored by far. The most largest of the diablosaurus species can be found in the skull island wetlands and mangroves where they are able to reach staggering heights of 35 feet tall and exceed 50 feet long thanks to feasting on high nutrient rich plants that grow in the watery wetlands that they frequent to the point they themselves will actually spend time in the water for periods of time that the rest of their body will become a more mottled green colored to blend in as algae and other aquatic plants will adhere to the armor on the back of the animal.
With all of these factors the diablosaurus was able to ground itself in its niche as a primary ground to low level vegetation grazer with the constant food sources and unchanging forests allowing it to be very successful in its preferred role by niche partitioning with other sauropods on skull island occupying the border ground between the open plains and grasslands and fields inhabited by the brontosaurus and the denser and more cramped jungle frequented by asperdorsus. Thus from what has been found in skull islands fossil record the only real change it went through was the increased amount of armor on its body and the horns on its head as well as stronger muscles and bones from the sources of food in its environment both flora and recently deceased fauna. Even with the arrival and evolution of new and more deadly predators the diablosaurus was able to weather through relatively unaffected as its sheer aggression and stubborn nature means everything from the various tree climbing big cats to venatosaurs to mother long legs to v rexes to entelodonts to giant snakes and centipedes are little more than target ragdolls for a charging diablosaurus to either knock down and stab or crush repeatedly or kill outright to be able to sustain itself from their carrion.
When humans first arrived onto skull island the diablosaurus was a common sight for the various ancestors of humans that would go on to form the skull island civilization due to being in the open forests that were close to the fields and plains all across the island. Therefore encounters and stories of them between humans are fairly common place even after the fall of the skull island civilization and new grouups emerged on skull island generally the diablosaurus is regarded as a symbol of stubborn resilience and defiance by the native peoples of skull island seen as a symbol of lasting strength against overwhelming odds. In the cultural scene the diablosaurus has a rather unique story which is widely known with only slight variation meaning that the general context of its storied origin has miraculously persevered where as many others have either been forgotten over the ages or become so mythified what is fact and what is legend has become hard to distinguish.
From what records we have managed to unearth in the ruins that dot the land as well as interviews with various oral keepers in the various villages on skull island the story states that the diablosaurus was once a simple shepard or agrarian(what kind varies from place to place) that dwelled near the outskirts of skull island civilization in the past who lived a very modest life unconcerned with any other worries save for tending to his labor. The exact name of who this man was is unknown as it seems to vary wildly with a few names including Azlar, orgos and qarza being the three most common which through the deciphering of skull islands language roughly translate to "farmer, Shepard and pure man" respectively. Regardless of the name what is known is that the man who would become the first diablosaurus spent his days merely tending to his flock or field peacefully where he was raised by two parents whose names have been completely lost to time but what is known were that they instilled into the agrarian a large sense of humility and modesty along with a very pure sense of right and wrong which would ultimately contribute to him going on to be a hero.
While the exact date of events during the fall of the skull island civilization is unknown what has been grasped, at least from a cultural storytelling standpoint, is that in the fall a great war was fought between the main principal god of evil on skull island GAW and all the myriad of other deities with primordus kong ( primordus kong being the alleged forefather of the species megaprimatus kong in the mythology of skull island) which was stated to be responsible for the myriad of disasters and calamities the skull island civilization experienced. This factors into the story in that one day when the parents of the agrarian were elderly and had died peacefully before they passed they asked of their son to promise them to always fight for the right cause and do what he felt was right no matter what which he swore with all of his heart before they passed peacefully. What the Agrarian didnt know was that this moment had been watched over and sensed by primordus kong who felt it with his vast power and realized that this simple human would be a great hero and would with his fellow skull island gods ( see the file on the skull island pantheon for more detail) would through their efforts devise a way to ascend the farmer and it would come about albeit unknowingly through the machinations of gaw.
Wether gaw himself was believed to have sensed the lone agrarian or his monstrous children simply stumbled upon him is something not very agreed upon by the people of skull island but what is agreed upon is that the agrarian due to his parenting had been raised to always have a understanding and respect and caution with ALL of the divinities of skull island and when he saw his herd or land getting attacked by the children of gaw ( which varies alot some say its gorophaganexes others skull crawlers or a combo thereof) he was stated to immediatly know what was going on and without hesitation grabbed a sycthe and pitchfork and proceeded to attack the beasts with accounts ranging from him killing all but a single one to him being overwhelmed all end with the agrarian being severely injured to the brink of death on the ground in a pool of blood spilled from his animals he had raised being brutally killed as well as that of the beasts he faced when then he would be rescued from death by primordus kong and the other benevolent skull island gods where they explained to him the full scope of what was happening and offered him the chance of rebirth to fight the forces of gaw so that what happened to him and his land or animals would never befall another which he would accept.
From there its stated that the soul of the agrarian was reborn and imbued with the essence of the skull island gods known as torno and bulos ( the skull island gods who are said to have been the primogenitors of the sauropods and ceratopsians in the islands mythology) to essentially grant them the strength and power of the long necks and charging horns into one which is how the natives explain why it looks like a combination of both. Then it is stated that through the combined powers the agrarian was restored to life and transformed into the first diablosaurus which was stated to have been originally a pure white in color to signify the pure nature of his soul as a force for good on skull island with it proceeding to him traveling across skull island almost always as the last hope coming to the rescue and changing the tides in favor for the forces against the evil of gaw until the final battle when all of the major and minor gods of skull island led by primordus kong to battle against gaw where it was stated gaw actually had the secret upper hand and had managed to corner primordus and severely injure him but despite the illusions gaw conjured the agrarian was able to see through it and saw what gaw was about to do and was said to run faster than he ever did before and was said to charge and gore his horn right into gaw making him actually cry out in agony as the purity of his soul was like acid to the evil nature of gaw so much it caused his inner ichor to spill out onto the agrarian permenantly staining his body into the color scheme the diablosaurus has today.
Ultiemately this was stated to be the moment that the tide turned against gaw as the pain he experienced was enough that all the illusions he conjured vanished and his forces were left without any cohesion from all experiencing the pain of their master to the point all of the gods and demi gods were able to fight them all and ultimately with primordus kong leading them perform a great spell that banished gaw to the most deepest part of skull islands underworld where he is still locked away to this day. As for the agrarian he was able to be fully healed but because of so much ichor spilling onto him he would forever behold a blood stained appearance which the agrarian had no issue with stating it as a badge of honor and his unmatched determination to do what must be done for the good of all with it done so selflessly he was rewarded with being granted ascension to godhood in the skull island pantheon. It then goes on to state that after the battle as part os his new found status as a god he went about to the spirits of other people who were farmers and shepherds that had died during the war and offered them the chance to be reborn like he once was to ensure what happened to them didnt happen to others with it stated it was totally of their will and choice with it stated that most went on and accpeted while a minor few went to the afterlife peacefully with those that were reborn becoming the diablosaurus now found across skull island.
Today on skull island the diablosaurus amongst the various villages with a focus on agriculture view it as a patron animal with many symbols ranging from colored clothing to small jewelry to wood carved totems and other artifacts and mementos being common place to some extant with observed villages having been witnessed making monthly offerings of thanks to it which serves as a consistent supply of food for it which in return makes it so that a diablosaurus can be a powerful guardian for a village against any large predator as even a VREX will pause and think twice about facing a massive diablosaurus that is enraged and in a aggresive mood. Because of that every village that has a diablosaurus or a family of them are almost always highly respectful of them as they know of how aggressive they can be if provoked and are always sure to tell everyone of what times are ok to be around one and which times are not with documented cases shown that diablosaurus will allow humans to physically touch them so long as they do so gently and with no aggression with even captured recordings having been made of village children also carefully playing with the infant diablosaurus as the adults are able to sense that they pose no real threat to their infants and will allow the children near their young.
However it should be noted that these cases are entirely of mutual cooperation between one another as despite their nature as herbivores their sheer size has made it so that they are practically impossible to domesticate to being loyal to humans as they are very nomadic animals and will continue to travel in search of food though they do appreciate the food offered by the villages. As of the foundation the diablosaurus were first identified in the 1935 expedition to skull island when the forests near the plains were being explored and documented a expedition group would encounter a mother diablosaurus and two infants where the mother was observed fending off two teenage v rexes that were twenty feet in length for the field explorers to see with those who witnessed it writing about it later in their journals as being similar to the defense tactics used by african rhinos but with more strategy and careful timing involved as the mother managed to successfully kill the two tyrannosaurs before the researchers witnessed them feast on the carcasses which was how diablosaurus got its name from both its horns as well as the blood stained faces of them before later observations would reveal they only did that to animals that threatened them or were already dead as they dont actively hunt prey due to their massive size and bulk facilitating it difficult as it can only reach top speeds in short bursts.
Regardless how it is seen the diablosaurus represents the pure bizarre way it can change and alter the animals that dwell upon it wether it be lifestyle or appearance. And while its mythological origin may never be known it can give us a glimpse into just how a single man can rwally change the tides agaisnt a force of insurmountable darkness like the foundation does to ensure humanities survival from the anomalous.
HELLO EVERYBODY! theperson7 here! bringing you another foundation profile this time on the rhino like sauropod of skull island the diablosaurus. Now for the process of making my version of the diablosaurus....i went through ALOT of different ideas as the original appearance was for all intents and purposes a blatant reptilian version of a rhinoceros and not like a dinosaur at all meaning I basically had to rebuild it from the ground up and would through researching learn about the dicraeosaurids which were actual sauropods that were very small compared to their relatives and thought they would be perfect for diablosaurus. Thus the diablosaurus now looked like a actual sauropod which would be from a lore stand point for someone in the 1930s to be puzzled at what it was due to the lack of knowledge of sauropods compared to what we have today back then to warrant confusion over its ancestry. the next major change was the reason as to why its head is red since it was originally for intimidation but I thought that felt...underwhelming so I instead conjured a new explanation for why it has a red face as well as giving it partial omnivory as the notion of a sauropod eating flesh is very interesting to me since many animals that dont primarily eat meat such as deer, bovines, pigs and even actual rhinos are known to feed on small animals and dead carcasses occassionally when times are tough which on skull island given how deadly the predators are and the extreme competition for resources having partial omnivory would be a game changer. As for its lore yeah I basically decided that while it is an aggressive animal it wont outright attack you lest you give it a reason too and figured that you can pet it so long as you respect its boundaries. But i hope you all enjoyed what I made and like it enough for a fave and comment have a wonderful day.
