It was cold and dark and wet. Mako couldn't breathe. Couldn't open his eyes. He was too tired... everything hurt. His head pounded. Through his closed eyes he was still able to detect a hint of a shadow drift over him, and hands on him. Next thing he was aware of was the ability to breathe again, harsh, ragged coughs exploding out of him as he sucked in precious, shallow breaths. He forced his eyes open as he was picked up by the mysterious figure, but he was only able to see the vague form of a wyngro. Not one he recognized. Regardless, he squeezed his eyes shut as tears fell from them, holding tight onto the wyngro's arm with one--or at least as tight as his exhausted little fingers could--and onto the small locket that he had nearly lost in the water in the other. He snuggled close to their chest, grateful to finally feel something soft and warm, instead of the hard, cold clutch of the flooded river. He let out a little sigh and let himself be pulled into sleep.
