Note: The following is my headcanon and my version of how I see my humanized versions of the MLP characters and does not affect the show itself. If you don't like them then oh well.

Tara "Twilight Sparkle" Gordon is an Afro Canadian, her family enjoyed a very rich lifestyle, with her brother being a high ranking officer in the Canadian Army. Being far too different from her peers, where they listened to rap and pop music, she listened to classical, instead of going out, she stayed home and read books. She was always into science always trying to find answers to the unknown and trying to solve everything that could was unsolvable. Her only friends were her older brother, John "Shining Armor"Gordon, her adoptive brother, Leroy "Spike" Gordon and her teacher later principal Angela Lord . Not knowing how to make friends, she seemed cold and didn't want to do anything with anyone. Until one day she met five other girls, Eleanor "Rarity" Wu, Jacqueline "Applejack" Taimanov, Betsy "Pinkie Pie" Boer, Juanita "Rainbow Dash" Gutierrez and Bahiya "Fluttershy" Ansari. At first she did not get along with them, until it was revealed that their principal, turned out to be the other worldly ruler known as Queen Celestia (Why a queen? She rules an entire kingdom man! Queens are not always evil!) Celestia has chosen all six of them to combat a greater evil. With the Celestia’s sister, Luna who is now the evil Nightmare Moon, Celestia gives them the elements of Harmony each element giving the user powers, Tara of course gets the Element of magic which gives her the power of the mystic arts. As a science major she cannot believe at first, but soon accepts her powers and her new friends as well. Twilight is very skilled in the mystic arts. She tends to carry around a spell book to help her chant spells when in battle. Tara can also use Astral Projection when necessary and can travel through different realms. She serves as the leader of the group, always using strategies in order to help her friends, but seems to butt heads with Rainbow Dash despite that the two have a mutual respect for one of another. Tara’s nickname “Tara Sparkle” are given mainly because of her magic powers and how bright they can be at times.

I basically kept Twlight’s magic powers from the show while added some of the stuff from the Marvel Superhero Dr. Strange. I made Twilight Afro Canadian mainly because I like the idea of a black Twilight and her being Canadian is a tribute to Tara Strong which is also her first name as well. As for the last name Gordon is also based on the last name of the first Batgirl, Barbara Gordon who Strong also voiced.
