Description
I like doing concept renders and here's one for a reimagined Colonial Viper from Battlestar Galactica. The idea is that there's a pristine factory Viper with an overly-complex design - sort of form-over-function or focusing on cool factor. Then when the Cylon attack happens as per the canon, the Galactica's compliment of Vipers is constantly patched together from salvage and scrap as it cannot be replenished until they find more of the craft. For example, the B (originally nicknamed Sideburn or Burnie) variant looks like the original 70's/Mark II Viper, but in this new canon, it'd be a variant created from a damaged A variant, and the swing-wing feature would be the first thing to go. The C variant which has its main wings clipped, would just operate in space. I was originally going to design something that would fit in the RDM BSG canon, but I ran with the swing-wing Viper idea instead.I will be doing vector line drawings of these craft when I have the time as I'd like to add more detail and lore even if it's just in 2D.
So I put together a little paragraph that sets the overall tone for a reimagined/rebooted show with this Viper concept. Let's say it's part of a speech by Admiral Adama:
"Our once pristine complement of Vipers serves as a constant reminder of the beating we're taking at the hands of those Cylon bastards. New variants, patched together from salvage and scrap, are appearing on the flight deck every day. Civilian ship captains are trading bulkheads for booze just to keep us in the fight. Those machines who are chasing us across these stars are bringing out the worst in humanity, and the best."
