This is indeed a nice shot. Great character, prespective, exposure and contrast. I guess the lightning needs to be worked on a little bit even though it's pretty obvious that there is a kinda soft light going on here thanx to the sun and lens you used. I like the background 'cos it's simple and effective even though that big tree trunk just behind the zebra neck is somehow in the way of the main character mainly 'cos of its color and there is no enough blur on it. That stunning creature is very well done and looks calm and confident which is pleasing to the eye. The details on the zebra are very good and the fact that it seemed to be noticed by the onlookers by slightly bending its head on the right hand side looking down, makes the character mysterious and appealing to look at. The fact that the main character stands out big time makes the onlooker totally interested in the creature as if one cannot stop looking at its beauty, pose and look in general. Nice work and looking forward to seeing more of you cool pictures! Take care of yourself.

I honestly thought the same thing with the lightning, I was going to use this as a stock photo but they wanted me to change the exposure and I thought it was better before the editing myself, the light was so strong looking on the zebras back before hand. I kept the back a bit under exposed so it didn't look so bright.

Yeah i understand where you're getting at......the sun can be a pain in the leg sometimes I mean the contrast on the zebra is pretty cool and the details are so good..................I guess whoever wants to use this pic to do some stuff will be happy with the zebra 'cos the angle and the creature expression are amazing.

Yeah, I personally don't like to use too much brightness, and it just seems it's very subjective because before the edit it looked great. If you are selling photos though I guess you have to do what the client wants. No matter how "too much" it seems.

I guess you're right about that.....adapting oneself to the clients need without expressing one's own art isn't good but that's business, isn't it? I guess we have to find the time to please our clients but also ourselves which means doing lots of works even for personal use.

Of course the customer is always right. I know when I go to take photos and I come back to look through them all, I put them in three categories. The deleted ones, because I personally don't like them, Sellables, where editing is whatever the client chooses' and my portfolios where I display the photos I like best and want to show what I am made of. When someone comes around to looking at my portfolio I can showcase my talents and not feel so bared down by the fact that I overly edited some photos to make someone happy.

Hey there, commenting for ProjectComment!
I really like the pose which you have captured here- it feels elegant and I think that it captures all the angles the curves and perfectly. The quality of the picture is good, the colors are crisp and clear and I love the way that the light falls on the zebra's back. I also think that it was very clever of you to capture the zebra while the head -the furthermost part of its body- was hidden in shadow, I think it brings a new level of subtle intensity to the picture. It helps with the shadow falling underneath the animal in a way that it doesn't hinder any aspect of the picture. Now about the background, I think it would be best for you to blur it a little bit with your lense so that the foreground object -the zebra- would show off more. This especially goes for the upper part where the backround -the fallen tree trunk in the back- that is dark. Also, you could slightly manipuate the lightness and the contrast in order to enhance the prominence of the foreground object. Overall it is a nice piece, especially in regards of pose, light and color. Very good job !

Thank You for commenting, the trick to the background was to get an angle that didn't show the residency behind it. Unfortunately there were housing right behind it's enclosure. (Which to me is honestly weird, I've never seen housing behind a zoo before.)

Why thank you good Sir. I believe I was back behind a post or gate of some kind and couldn't really get him focused so I damn near fell into the exhibit with him to get his photo.

Animals in general are usually hard because they are just kinda doing their own thang and not paying too much attention to you, but when you catch them in a great pose or angle it all to seem to come together.

It's honestly my favorite and the easiest for me to produce, but I know everyone is different. The hardest is people, faces......they are weird.
