Description
The Alethiometer from Northern Lights. Picture was reffed from the cover, obviously. I just wanted to see how well I could draw it.In all honesty I think that my version is godawful, but my friends seem to like it. I didn't know how to draw reflective glass and I still don't. Will redraw it sometime soon and hopefully do it justice.

Everyone says that. No one actually does it.

Hi ! I'm a French student and I'm currently writing a thesis concerning Philip Pullman's trilogy, "and also Peter Pan" and "The Neverending Story". I think your drawing is really beautiful, and I would like to use it as my first page's illustration, would you mind ? Of course, your name will appear in the caption beneath the image.

Hi IamAbsolem, of course, go for it! I'd love to see one of my drawings be used in a thesis. The subject matter sounds interesting, what's your thesis about? If possible, once it's all written and printed, could I see a photo of my drawing used as the illustration? I'd love to see something I scribbled being used in an academic study.

Thank you, that is very kind of you. My thesis is about imaginary geography and quest in those books, that's why I think the alethiometer would be a great illustration, since it's used as a compass in Lyra's quest, so as to find her way in the multiple worlds she crosses over. I'm not done with the wrinting yet, but I'll send you a photo when it's printed !!

And I'll be the third to ask whether or not you mind me using this amazing drawing as a basis for a tattoo on my back?
I saw this image a while ago, just in an image search and only now traced it back to the source. You're wonderfully talented, and I very much enjoy your interpretation of the alethiometer. I'd be very interested to know what doing it "justice" would look like, because I think this does the job.
Dunno how realistic getting a tattoo is right now. But if I were to get one, it would be of this and I would send pics your way.

Aw thank you for your kind words, they made me smile! I'm probly just being too hard on myself, but usually artists are their own worst critics, heh.
Of course I don't mind, I'd absolutely love to see that done! Getting it done on your back is a good place, I've always thought that if an Alethiometer were to be done as a tattoo, it would look best on a (relatively) flat place on the body, with lots of room. If you'd like, I can probably dig out a high res version of the image and email it to you, if it would help.

This series was a huge part of my childhood and remains probably my favorite of all time, and I'm thinking of getting a tattoo to represent that. This just might have to be the reference I use for it, because it's awesome! Would you mind?

Of course not, that'd make me very happy if you did! You're the second person to ask to use my sketch for a tattoo, hehe. All I'd want in return is that you show me some photos of the tattoo, because I'd love to see it.
