It's been over a year since I last did a character sheet. So, I made a new one with my improved skills! 😊 These character design sheets take up a lot of time to make, but it's all worth it in the end!

Originally, I was just making quick sketches of the 1996 version of -M- (Back when Matthieu Chedid was playing Billy Ze Kick's version of M on the album "Paniac") and it got me thinking: This version of -M- is very obscure and all the reference images that are available online are in low quality. So, why not make a character sheet in high quality so that when I draw him again, he'll be more consistent and I'll have another image to reference? And yeah, here's that character sheet!

There are a number of things that I changed here from the original design for a number of different reasons, so let's go over them:

1) His hair: I made his hair have the same shape as most of -M-'s hair designs for consistency reasons while also keeping the messy nature of it like in the original images.

2) His eyes: In the original images, he has normal eyes. But I thought of giving him crazy red and yellow eyes instead since on the Paniac album, most of what he sang was apparently random, crazy, and scary stuff. And I thought giving him these crazy eyes would reflect his character a lot better. Also, the original reference images make it look like he has some sort of red make up around his eyes? I'm not sure if Matthieu himself wore eye make up or if this is an error on how the colours developed on the photos, but I decided to keep it in this design to make his eyes more intense to fit his character.

3) His coat: In the original images, his coat was very baggy and was only one yellow/brown colour. Here, I decided to make it mostly a yellow/gold colour with blue jewels and red accents similar to that of most of -M-'s other designs for consistency reasons. I also gave him the '-M-' logo on the back of his coat with the Paniac inspired font since back when this character was played by another member in the band in 1994, he also had an M written on the back of his coat. So I thought that adding this would be a nice callback to an earlier version of BZK's M. Also, in the original image, his coat seems to be green on the inside, but I changed that to blue to better fit the primary colour scheme of the Paniac album.

4) His pants: I had no idea what his pants looks like in the original images since the images are in poor quality. So I just went with a regular beige pants so that his overall design can be better readable.

5) His boots: Same issue here like I had with the pants. I thought of giving him tall boots with faint dragon scales on them since the original album mentioned dragons in one of the songs. I also gave the boots a metal tip and blue accents to make the boots more readable and less plain.

And yeah, everything else in the original photos (Like the shirt and overall personality) were kept the same in this redesign. I also did a little redesign of the Paniac version of Billy for this sheet just to add as a little cameo. And while I won't go over what I changed about her design since this post is already so long, I will say that changing her floral patterns with this lava lamp pattern that I'm experimenting with right now is already making her look so fresh and it fits her personality from the album so much better! I can't wait to do a character design sheet of her once I get more free time again!
