Lady Dimitrescu redesign, feat. Ref images
I've been wanting to redesign Lady D. for a long while, mostly because of her clothing. The dress she wears ingame is from the 1930's, meaning she was already 20 years out of date when she was implanted with the cadou in 1958.
The reason that bugs me so much is that it seems so out of character for her to be that out of fashion. She re-applies her makeup when she's on the phone with Miranda, she'll adjust her hat if you shoot her in the head, and she checks her nails after swiping at Ethan. She obviously cares about how she looks, so why does she look so outdated?
Anyways, her redesign.
Something that I wanted to incorporate right off the bat was a fur coat. Fur coats were around since the 20's, but seem to become all the rage in the 40's-50's. I was thinking about a good animal to do the coat with, and everything just clicked when I thought about a bear-skin coat. A bear-skin coat would exaggerate her size, making the bear look small on her, and her danger, because it's a bear.
The coat, sweeping wide to each side of her, would also make her silhouette larger and more imposing.
After that, her clothes under the coat. I was thinking about it for a while, and it took me until seeing a Montgomery Ward catalog from 1949 to realize what she needed, which was a suiting combination. Formal while empowering, and still fitting her original silhouette, it all fell into place.
With the collar out of place, it was hard to find a good spot for her crest pin, so I attached it to a collar instead, keeping it in close proximity to it's original location.
