All you really need in a vector program to be able to do this is the ability to draw gradients. And I actually prefer the Flash gradient system over Illustrator. Well, that will be until Illustrator gets a gradient transform tool
I reckon the only thing Illustrator has over flash, is gradient meshes, and that's a pretty big thing
