Megatronus wasn't his name to begin with. It was a name he liked that he took for his own.

2 halves of one whole; they should have used this version of megaton for the movies. i would have loved to have seen him go from evil to good again, like in the Dark of the Moon novel. megaton's words still echo "i... am tired of fighting. conquest has brought me nothing, so i will create for a time and see if it brings me...something." -Megatron to Optimus after their execution of Sentinel Prime. if only they were to use that or something similar for transformers prime.

the end part in my opinion is the best. i must admit, that was better than the final battle in the film. the graphic novel ending to Dark of the Moon is similar to the movie novel's. truthfully, i think the way Optimus kills megatron in the movie should have been saved for Sentinel Prime or Shockwave, possibly Starscream.

Before Megatron became a decepticon, He claimed his name to one of the original 13 Primes, which is Megatronus Prime and shortens his name to Megatron.
