It's just water with red food coloring
sure! main lightsource was an off-camera flash reflected by a white wall,
it's important that most of the light comes from behind the bottle, to get a nice lighting
I mounted a cord on the bottle, focused the camera, put a bucket below to bottle, filled in the red water,
turned the bottle, and took some shots, that's it
maybe it sounds easier than it really is. Practice makes perfect

Yeah, it actually sounds like a messy and frustrating project haha. But okay, I really just love this idea. The food coloring looks so cool in the bottle.

depends on what you will do with it and how much you want to pay for it
I'm also not a pro for camera equipment
but I'm really happy with my Speedlite 430EX II
E-TTL, manual setting and a Flash head swing (bounce flash) is very important to me.
also that the flash can be triggered by another flash is a nice feature
Guide No.: 43 is more than enough for the beginning
It's a fast and very silent flash
unfortunately I have no experience with other flashes
but get some informations at the internet and compare (like I did)

Thanks, I'm thinking I like the SB-600 af speedlite. Its not too expensive, has the adjustable head, and seems like its going to really come in handy. Ugh I hate spending money, even if I know I should.

Can't say anything about nikon stuff, cause I'm a Canon user only
but the specifications of the DB-600 look not bad
