Description
Finally finished this during the stream I was holding a bit ago! I'm very proud of how this turned out, though I'd love to practice making my brush strokes a little less rendered, especially for backgrounds. Nonetheless, this is definitely one of my better pieces and got to practice atmosphere and mood more than I have before. Hope you like! To get the full context of this piece, read the description below.Warning though, there's mention of death.
The purple grem lay in the thick grass, his paws clenching his tail tightly and his eyes watering. The soft bed of grass beneath him was the only thing that could comfort him on this lonely night. Just an hour ago, Etherielle had been sleeping at his owner's side, but when he woke, he found his owner was no longer breathing.
----------------
{Flashback}
His owner was an elderly, humble man named Jason Monreau whose passion it was to care for insects. Jason bought Etherielle as he was in need of a loyal assistant who could help him in his old age. For about seven years, they faithfully worked together to make their home the safest haven an insect could thrive in.
---------------
Etherielle thought of Mr. Jason, wishing he would have been awake to call an ambulance. He beat himself down, blaming himself over and over again for Jason's death. He sobbed into the cool grass, tossing and turning in agony.
"I could have been awake to help him..... to stop his heart attack.."
"If it wasn't for me, he would still be alive right now.. what do I do?"
Anguish rattled him to the core, breaking him down from the inside... but after a few moments, he felt a strange energy touching him, giving off a soft purple glow. From between the strands of his messy bangs, he saw the three butterflies he and Jason released a few days before. The falling of his tears slowed, and his breathing steadied as he watched these butterflies comfort him.
It was at that moment he discovered his destiny. He knew Jason would want him to continue his legacy, to continue his care of insects.
---------------
The next day, Etherielle released the rest of his insects and held a funeral for the honorable owner that was Jason. Afterwards, he scrounged up some of Jason's money and bought a bus ticket. He found a new home in the next town over and was hired as a caretaker at the local butterfly house.
"Maybe the future is bright after all.. just like those butterflies that visited me that night."
