Hello everyone! I would appreciate it if you read this description and gave your thoughts!

Yesterday was a bad day for me but the little details about that doesn’t matter all that much. Basically someone told me to play a game when I was upset because it would help me feel better. Once I got home I decided to play on my brother’s Xbox I just grabbed the first game I saw (I don’t have too many most of them are my brother’s now.) And it was Sega All Star Racers (never touched it before), so I was like cool! I played for hours as Amy Rose because I think she’s pretty cool!

She is the subject of this picture and I guess you could say it’s just like any other image of a cute character correct? A very sweet anime-esque character with big eyes, a gentle color palette and suspended in what seems to be a simple colored backdrop? This is the recipe for a cute picture right? Obviously from previous works I have done I am very interested in turing things that are supposed to be cute like colorful animals and such into things that are off-color, and almost uncanny while also making them into vehicles for discussion or satires of their origins. Recently I have been super interested in the uncanny but I can hardly bring myself to look at most of it!

There is a reason why I decided to paint Amy this way, see on the last race I did I won and while Amy was cheering I did a little cheer too and then I said “Yeah! That’s me!” After saying that I felt a little odd. I had recently watched a video on Other Kin and Fiction Kin. It wasn’t a very “academic" video it was actually rather brash the commentator was saying these people are the definition of crazy. I had never heard of Fiction Kin before and apparently it is when someone thinks that they are a certain character in Fiction. I don’t think these people should be shunned for believe they are a character but it is a very strange to me. I know that I am not Amy Rose and that I only said that because I am basically controlling her and how she drives her little car. But I was taken aback from the colorful and exuberant characters celebrating and whatnot, to an unsettling state of mind. Have you ever done this? Did you think twice about what said? I’m sure in the past I didn’t bat and eyelash. Could this just be an innocent thing or is there something psychological going on? XD Perhaps I take entertainment media way too serious but I would love to hear some of your thoughts on all of these topics I discussed here!

Comments on the technical execution of this piece (anatomy, use of watercolors, Amy’s design) are always welcome but please keep in mind this was just an exercise in watercolors and I am much more interested on the concept of this piece and the ideas that went into making it and that come out.
