Scorpion Slizard's inspiration/Origin

\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\\/\/\/\/\/

This is one of various examples of my categorizing tendencies. You see this creature which I label in the group of what I call Slizards this is not the first Slizard creature I created and it was not the last.
The unique element of the development of this creature is that the Scorpion Slizard is special among the other slizards I have made. You see this Slizard possesses four limbs ,no other Slizard I have designed possess the full dual sets of limbs designed for locomotion. All other categorized Slizards possess two limbs, those limbs are what would be the front two limbs the other reptiles possess.
I remember having the fear that a quadrupedal reptile would automatically look far more lizard than snake, which felt wrong because my internal definition for Slizards was(and still is) that of a reptile that displays about an even split of lizard-like and snake-like features, interestingly enough I currently feel despite the four legged nature of my Scorpion Slizard I feel it significantly feels serpent enough.

up to Date Lore/biology for The Scorpion Slizard

The Scorpion Slizards are a species of reptile who are native to the Khannish Wastes of my future continent known as Aurapp which is my future Eurasia. Of the predators of the Khannish Scorpion Slizards are the quite efficient, with a hunting success rate on par with wild cats. Scorpion Slizard is of a lineage who’s ancestors diverged from the basal member of the Slizard family tree. You see there is two sub orders of Slizards, those being first the more diverse group which is called Reptans Slizardisses or called Crawling Slizards which are characterized by this group only having two limbs present. The other group being the one this species belongs, they are the Ambulatio Slizardisses these guys are characterized by all member of this sub order possess four limbs.
Scorpion Slizard physically as mentioned prior possess two sets of limbs which both are used in locomotion. The legs of Scorpion Slizards connects virtually each leg to each ground facing corners of the animal’s strangely square shaped torso. The Scorpion Slizard’s torso is plated on top of the shoulder section of the animal. Scorpion Slizard’s necks are longer but not exceedingly long. The head of Scorpion Slizards are hard and bony with a hooked beak like tip. The most interesting feature of what gave Scorpion Slizard their name. At the business end of Scorpion Slizard's tail is a hooked stinger like barb that has evolved from a long scale structure. Their tail weapons are just that weapon and therefore is employed in hunting.
Scorpion Slizard hunt and eat a diet similar to that of birds of prey so mostly like rodents and rabbits. They’ll immerse themselves in the sand drift of the wastes with only their heads and backs which are textured like smooth desert stone. Scorpion Slizards will stay very still in the sand waiting for prey to disturb the sand near the resting Slizards upon which it will emerge from the sand and chase down the prey with ease thanks to their relatively long limbs. When a prey animal gets close to the hunting Scorpion Slizard instead of biting at it’s prey the Slizards instead attempt to “sting” the prey animal with its barbed tail weapon.

While there are elements I’m not happy with,my drawing of Scorpion Slizard is overall pretty well received, at least in my mental scoring system of my own art.
My Spore version of my Scorpion Slizard is passable and while its hard saying which one, the Spore or the sketch version I prefer. I do think despite the janky feet the sketch of a Scorpion Slizard wins out.
Only one more drawing from this batch that I did back around late 2021 to early 2022. After I post the next original creature I’ll have to find a new thing to post or at least adjust the posting schedule a little.
The next post is back to cryptid with a creature of the traditional myths of north western Europe.
