Description
In this universe, each species of bird or group of species has different rules for names. Pelicans like Raindare worship water, wind, storms, and the sun, and will have names centered around these concepts. Corvids, such as Chain, believe in the beauty of shiny objects, and revere metal, plastic, and glass as their deities. Thus, they give their children the names of specific objects (Chain's full name is Chain-Link Fence). Seagulls and several other species of seabird are more open with their naming, going for more human-sounding names, like Charlie or Dianne.
Raindare
Species: Brown Pelican
Age: 19 (about 45 in human terms)
Voice claim: Peter Cullen
-In my mind I see him as the 'Optimus Prime' of the friend group (which is why I chose Peter Cullen as his va, I'm so subtle), he's the voice of reason and the impromptu leader
-pretty laid back, but will break up an argument if he has to
-He once had chicks, but they're all grown and have long since left for new shores
-the one thing that will always set him off is any insults to his beak, which is something pelicans are very proud of
Kel
Species: Laughing Gull
Age: 7 (about 30 in human years)
Voice claim: John Pinette
-loves to riff on everybody, especially younger people bc they’re so gullible
-slight Boston/New Yorker accent
-always laughing about one thing or another, can make jokes about anything
-if somebody insults him, he’ll usually come right back at them with a smug attitude, but if they insult one of his friends, he’ll immediately drop the joking and become deadly serious
-pretty hyper, twitches and fidgets a lot
Chain
Species: Beach Crow
Age: 8 (about 25 in human years)
Voice claim: Tom Kenny
-STRONG Russian accent
-very jumpy and twitchy, his movements are jerky like an irl crow
-he often fluffs different parts of his body to accentuate his speech
-has a few different verbal expressions; he says ‘Kwoh’ before he makes a point or says something he thinks is wise, he says ‘Kweh’ when he is surprised, confused, shocked, etc.
-almost always in a bad mood, pretends he doesn’t care much for his friends, but in reality he is one of the few crows on the island and is very lonely
Map of Bearclaw Island (and Claw Isle) Key:
1- Docks and Ferry port (this is the only way for humans to access the island
2- The town of Ferdivilla, and surrounding neighborhoods (Bearclaw is a medium-sized island, with humans only really coming to live on it about 60 years ago, but since then the human population has gone up bc of tourism)
3- Bear Marsh, an estuary that surrounds a small brackish lake and river
4- Several private homes, beach houses, and a few resorts dot the northern shores
5- Site of Gulliver’s nest
6- The old stone wall that all the friends hang out at. It’s about 4 or 5 miles long, an is the last remaining evidence of a very old structure made by explorers who settled the island sometime in the 1500s
7- The site of a historical sea fort and lighthouse that were constructed during the American Revolutionary war. They have been converted into a museum.
8- The cliffs beneath the sea fort are home to several species of seabird, and hundreds of individuals make their nests and hunt in the surrounding area.
9- Claw Isle, a wildlife preservation park. Humans are not allowed to visit this Isle unless they are a research team, because the isle is the only place where the endangered Claw Isle parakeets still live and breed. To the birds of Bearclaw, however, this isle is seen as haunted, unnatural, and dangerous, and they avoid it. Once every year, there is a night where the air is completely still and silent, except for an unearthly wailing whistle emanating from the island. The seabirds believe this to be some sort of demon who is trapped on the small isle, constantly searching for a way onto the mainland.
