perhaps it's the style that you wanted, like collage-art or something -- because this looks very flat to me.

i can see you had a lot of fun doing close-ups (if that is true).

did you use *black* throughout thsi painting? it might be the culprit in making this painting really flat.

the depth is very confusing to me. the piece of broken machinery to the right, is it right next to her or behind her? it seems to want to be next to her but it's actually behind her once you look at the lower parts of the piece of machinery.

the "wall" behind her, to the left -- just how far away is it if it is a piece of wall connected to an opening, which apparently has people who are "smaller" than her due to perspective? the button to the left looks like she could just turn around without walking further down in order to push it, but then the same button looks like it wants to be far away because of the doorway right behind her that looks like it's supposed to be further away from us.

*shrug*

perhaps this is to express individuality, that you did this pic mainly by close-ups and didn't keep in mind the technical stuff like the stuff I mentioned. but it looks like you had fun, and in fact got lost in it. perhaps this sort of "flatness" is telling the viewer that every object in the image WANTS to be out in front and wants the attention. to me it can be a bit overwhelming, but hey, it could be what you were going for.

just keep painting.

Wow! this is what i called a good critique. Constructive and very close to the reality. This was painted on 2003 so it was completely different in style than now. These were years of experiments, and yes Tons of close-ups. I remember that i was crazy on detailing everything, and i love this sentence..perhaps this is to express individuality, perhaps this sort of "flatness" is telling the viewer that every object in the image WANTS to be out in front and wants the attention EXACTLY, this was the idea. but in fact i wouldnt make this way again.and yes i was lazy on design a very correct perspective and this kind of things, i wanted more to work on glows and details. hahaha.

thanks a lot for all your comments ~kiiroikimono

yes, royo was a big influence to my art style. i liked a lot when i was young .specially her womens. nowadays i donΒ΄t like what he does but the influence is still there. in the pose and the thematic.

I like images where you find details to look at, and this one really delivers. All the tiny details on the mecha/robot as well as the slightly grainy structure of the image itself help to improve the detailed feeling. My first thought seeing this is that of a concept image for a roleplaying game booklet or similar ("the mechanic" character class?). No real critique to give for this one; well worth a fave I think.
