This is wonderfully atmospheric. I'm not sure how much the current weather where I live might be influencing my interpretation (it's cold and rainy), but this feels damp and hazy with fog. The dog's fur doesn't look soggy despite all the mist and the slick road, so she must have waited for a lull in the downpour to venture outside, perhaps a quick dash out on some errand, hopefully to be completed before the rain begins anew.
Dat fur. It's so floofy. I wanna touch it. I might get bitten, buuut it might be worth it. The scribbly edges of the fur tufts give it depth and that lovely fluffy texture, but not so much detail that the dog appears hyper-real against and detached from the rougher background.
At first I was going to say that there could be a bit more definition between the dog and the background, via shading or a stronger light source or more contrasting colours, but after staring at it a bit more I think this works great the way it is. The monotone grey-brown reminds me of that somewhat depressing non-season between autumn and winter, when all the trees have lost their leaves but it isn't yet cold enough for the precipitation to be snow, and everything just looks brown and soggy and dead. It's giving this piece a very melancholy air. Though I'm not familiar with the dog character, the title of the piece coupled with the gloomy atmosphere makes her seem like a very world-weary soul, at risk of being swallowed up by existence, the same way the brown of her fur blurs into the browns of the buildings surrounding her.
