You have my permission to use them for exhibition as long as it's in a larger body of work and not simply a redistribution of my shapes.
I need no credit if the shapes are used as they are intended: in artwork.

Yes, as long as they are part of a larger work and not simply redistributed as shapes for photoshop or any other software.
Is that explanation clear? Use for art (commercial or private) and not resources.

when I go to open this file, it opens up photoshop elements. I have no way to save it to use it in CS6.. is this normal? Or am I missing something everyone else knows as to how to get it into Cs6?

it's simply a shapes file. it's not an actual drawing. You will load these into the presets/custom shapes folder.
this is a data file, after placing file in proper location you go to your custom shapes and load file.
