Description There it is, it took a lot of time and effort but I finished my first high poly "for-animation" character. You can call her Thal'ope.

Done with Blender 2.55-56, base sculpt using sculptris.

How do you take a Sculptris model and put it in Blender? Is it difficult?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

thetetine In reply to missuny [2014-02-16 17:55:32 +0000 UTC]

Not much. Just export it in .obj from sculptris, then use the Import menu in blender. Chances are the model will be quite big after import, so just resize it. Also, models are usually vertices heavy, so a good computer (and maybe a decimate modifier) is a plus.

How did you do the rendering with all those passes and combining them, for blender internal render this looks awesome. Want to learn a bit more about blender

You should go on sites like blender nation, cg cookie or blender sushi to find some tutorials and ideas (and of course blender.org). Also, finding some example blends on blendswap.
There's a lot of ressources out there, and all of it is free

Thanks ^^, I'm glad it helped you. 7 hours seems pretty long, but I guess it depends on what your settings and rendering machine are.

There's a big difference between maya and blender : maya is not free XD (well, I think there's some kind of limited edition or something but I didn't look much into it, I think it's only for students). Anyway, blender can export to various file formats, maybe one of them could then be imported into maya... Don't know if it's worth the trouble though.

I made a little browsing in your gallery and I must say, your traditionnal animations (and pretty much everything else actually) look really good.

Thanks again for stopping by.

Yeah I'm new to the 3d world and that's what I found out yesterday! Haha, I actually saw your rig on BlendSwap and I got all excited with all the amazing props and stuff on that site, and then found out none of them would work for Maya, made me a little sad xD Especially since I can't seem to find any sites that have nice things for Maya yet D: I'll keep looking though! xD

Thanks a lot for the compliments 8)

Amazing work, I think how you get back the sculpt mesh from Sculptris.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

thetetine In reply to mcunha98 [2011-04-23 21:12:46 +0000 UTC]

Thanks
If you wonder about the sculptris to blender step, I just reduced the poly count of the mesh before exporting it in .obj from sculptris and imported it in blender.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mcunha98 In reply to thetetine [2011-04-23 22:27:52 +0000 UTC]

Interesting...using the REDUCE ALL option maybe.
I try the inverse, create in Blender, get in Sculptris to create the "high poly" version.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

thetetine In reply to mcunha98 [2011-04-23 22:34:08 +0000 UTC]

I use reduce all and reduce brush when I don't want to lose too much details.
I guess you can start in blender, but I find sculpting more intuitive. Plus, importing obj into sculptris can result in some messed up stuff and you are limited to closed triangulated meshes. So i prefer to start with a sculpt from a sphere (with dynamic tesselation, you don't have to bother about the base mesh topology). Then back to blender and retopo.

mcunha98 In reply to thetetine [2011-04-23 23:03:17 +0000 UTC]

Yes, is true...when I put something in Sculptris from another tool the modeling process dont get a good model to work in sculpt mode.
