I think both sides look beautiful and in my opinion the shot works. That you're looking to the right draws the eye to the right. The reference shot has the model looking straight ahead. You say you don't like the way you look without makeup and in the image you're actually leaning that way. Your pose makes the image more than just an exercise in makeup application. It's off balance but I see an artistic expression in that off balance.
