Overall, the painting is pretty good and shows skill. My main problems are not at all with the painting, but with the photo of it. The glare in the upper left of the rose pales it out and dulls the details, and the rest of the piece seems to have some life drained from it as a results. Nonetheless I can see that the petals are well-detailed and rich in colour, and the grey of the background, while making for a bit of a "generic" image, still brings out the red of the rose, and the fact that the also grey stem and leaves still stand out crisply but not distractingly shows that you know what you're doing.

Very lovely, I like how the red pops so much. Personally, I would have given the step and 'greens' a little bit of green. Not much, just enough to make the transition a little smoother. That could just be me, however. I love the center of the rose the best. It has the sharpest contrasts and really draws the eye.

I really just wanted the rose itself to pop. That's why I didn't add color to the stem. I wanted the dramatic contrast. Thank you, for your critic.

This is really beautiful. This gradient red is perfect. A pity the watermark added to the flash spoil it. Anyway, it's superb!
