Description A redesign of Byleth's outfit

Disclaimer: Not to discredit the original artist who made their outfits, but looking at the original outfits from a practical perspective, I can see several problems.

The metal plates of their armor are made out of small, seemingly welded together bits and are often placed in certain areas but not in areas that need more protection like the torso, where most of the vital organs are. Not to mention they look too brittle to function like proper armor. A strong strike from a sword could potentially shatter them and plate armor is supposed to resist swords strikes.

Female Byleth's original outfit, I'm not gonna sugarcoat it, she looks more like a prostitute or stripper instead of the mercenary she's stated to be. She has many exposed areas in her armor, including her stomach. Also what's the purpose of those ridiculous leggings, and why the heck would her father, Jeralt, be ok with his daughter going out into battle in that outfit. If your going to battle, you dress for battle, not as eye candy for people and self-righteous, warmongering emperors to drool over. Don't get me wrong, I find Female Byleth super hot, hotter than almost every other girl in Three Houses, but if that's what she wears when going to battle, then its a wonder, she managed to last long enough to eventually become a professor of Garreg Mach. Male Byleth has it slightly better, emphasis on SLIGHTLY, as his chest, though covered in clothing, is still vulnerable to a strike from any melee weapon or arrow fire.

For their armor redesign, I gave them a full solid breastplate that was painted black to match their original armor. In the medieval times, plate armor was quite expensive, so to reflect on their mercenary lifestyle, I'd like to imagine they could only afford a breastplate and fauld(hip armor), as the mercenary life didn't always provide plentiful wealth. For Female Byleth's breastplate, it was designed to emphasize her large bust, now before anyone starts saying "boob armor" is impractical or dangerous, I'll have you know that the breastplate isn't sitting directly on top of her breasts and there's a still a decent amount of space inside, not to mention a layer of padding underneath for comfort. During the medieval times, armor was made to emphasize certain aesthetics that would be considered attractive in their culture. Ever heard of the codpiece? If you look closely, Male Byleth has one, and codpieces were considered a manly piece of fashion in the Middle Ages. With that logic and the fact that Fire Emblem takes place in a fantasy world, "boob plate armor" would logically be a normal and common thing in their world, especially with all the well endowed ladies around. To go with their plate armor, they also sport a stylized, but still functional gambeson which despite common misconceptions, is actually really effective armor, not to mention its affordable and repairable. And gambeson can be colored to suit your personal preferences.

Again, not to discredit the original artist, this is just a fun redesigning of a character's outfit with some realism and practicability applied to it, in this series of Fire Emblem Reforged.

Note: If you're familiar with my fanart of Byleth, then you can probably tell why I drew them with different hair colors.
