Hello Violet,
Hahahaha! Yes...old couples who fight...but when all is said and done, still really love each other on the inside
Thank you! I'm glad you like the painting~
I enjoy your photography on raindrops! It's cool that you've stuck to a subject matter and explored it in many different ways

no I don't like Your painting...
I love it!!
showing emotions is very hard...
I have two left hands for drawing,
but You have a gift and looking at Your drawings one can sense feelings... emotion...
they are in a certain mood and it starts with colours that build it
and ends on every single line You make with Your hand
This is rare, really rare
and I adimre that
Everyone walks his own Artistic path...
mine is Photography and yours is Painting
keep developing! (even though You're amazing right now)

Bonjour Crystal~
Merci beaucoup!
Your gallery is full of so many adorable cats and kittens!
It just makes me go awwwww
I particularly like 'Songe de Chat'--the composition makes the cat look like it belongs in a painting,
and not being able to see the cat's face while it looks on in the distance,
makes the viewer wonder what the cat is thinking and dreaming,
which lends a sense of mystery, which so characterizes the spirit of cats!
Charming~

Hi Styx,
Thank you for your lovely comment.
As for the brush work, well, thank goodness for Winsor & Newton size 2 brushes--don't know what I'd do without one.
Talk about vivid colors though, your artwork has colors just jumping off the page!
And some of your compositions are so interesting--I particularly like the ones that seem to have a bit of an Asian influence.
Really vibrant work that's full of energy you've got going on~keep it up!

It's still difficult to begin to draw: At first I chose something too difficut.
Now I think I found something that will be easier! thank you!

Good for you
Would you mind me asking what that something easier it is you've found?
It's okay if you want to remain private about it--I understand that art is so personal and can make people feel a bit vulnerable in its making.
Best of luck!

Here's my idea: For beginning, I'm going to study and copy flowers and plants in Franco-Belgian comics (like the flowers in The Smurfs > for exemple). I feel a bit silly to use books for children as references, but I like stylized drawings and it doesn't seem too difficult.
I'm fond of many kind of comics! European comics, U.S. comics, Asian comics! I do believe that I can learn many things by studying them.
By the way, when I say Asian comics, I'm not only thinking about Japanese Manga: I'm very fond of a Taiwanese artist, Cài Zhìzhōng (蔡志忠)!
Do you know his work? Is he well-known in Taiwan?

Hi Tinywild,
I'm glad to hear that you have come up with a plan!
Like all plans, once you start, you'll adapt and make changes to it along the way,
however, you always need one to make a start,
and starting something is never silly!
You don't know how often people say to me,
"Oh! I wish I could draw! I want to learn how to draw!"
and never take any real steps towards learning.
Some children's books and comic books are breathtaking and impressive in their own right!
I've learned so much from illustration as I have from fine art, graphic design, tattoo art, graffiti art, web design, textile design, architecture, scientific illustration...you name it!
Inspiration can be found anywhere~
Just one note about practicing from comic books though--
by learning to draw from comics, you will most likely learn more about line work than about tone/color,
precisely because the style it more stylized.
Yes, comic books are colorful too,
but the colors are mostly colored "in" as opposed to colored "on.
What I mean by that is,
if you look at realistic drawings, the line work is normally done only for the initial outline,
and is basically covered up once the colors are applied,
because real objects in real settings don't have hard outlines.
I think once you've become more comfortable with drawing,
it might be useful to look at the real object/person that the comic book artist has stylized.
So for instance, looking at a real rose and seeing how a comic book artist has stylized that rose into a few simple lines.
This might give you more insight into "how" a comic book artist stylizes something,
and not just the end result of "what" they have stylized.
Does this make any sense??!!
As for 蔡志忠, of course I know his work! And thank goodness I do too!
I have been reading his books since I was in elementary school, and continue to read them to this day!
He is an accomplished artist, and well known primarily because of his efforts in translating the difficult works of Chinese classics into relatable comics,
which has helped make those works more accessible and less intimidating for many people to read.
When I was in elementary school,
students were all required to memorize Tang Dynasty poetry and Song Dynasty poetry,
which is the equivalent of asking a nine year old of memorize and appreciate Shakespearean verse.
It was so painful having to memorize combinations of words that made no sense to me,
until I came across my first 蔡志忠 Tang Dynasty poetry comic book,
which made memorizing poems a bit more entertaining.
I'm currently reading his works on Confucianism too~
Good luck~

I already thought about adding a more complex coloring on linearts based on comic books. I find the shading and coloring less intimidating. The most important for me was to find one first step! Drawing these linearts already teach me to "see" the basic shapes of any subject. but I do know there will be many other steps, especially because I don't know yet in which direction I'm going! (I like comic styles, I'm fond of half-abstract drawings , I love impressionism...)
I began to read the work of 蔡志忠 years ago because I wanted to know more about Daoism. Thanks to him, I discovered the CaiGenTan (菜根譚), which is quite unknown in Europe. I'm really fond of this book!

Hi TinyWild,
Are you fluent in Chinese?
And yes, the first steps are the most important. As long steps are taken, the direction will be revealed in the process~
As for basic shapes, every complex thing you see in real life can also be broken down into basic shapes-- I deconstruct all complex objects into a series of rectangles and ovals so I can get the outline and proportions down quickly, and then I take my time adding all the details.

I took Chinese lessons for two years, some times ago. I think I understand 100 or 200 characters, I have some basic knowledge in grammar, and I can say, write or understand small sentences: but it's not enough to be fluent in Chinese. I do like poems from the Tang Dynasty for exemple, but I know them mainly by their translations in French or in English...

Hi TinyWild~
It's still quite impressive that you know some Chinese.
It's so wildly different from English and French.
I have some western friends who live in Taiwan,
and they bemoan that sometimes just because of a slight change in how you pronounce the tone of a word
can lead to a completely different meaning, which leads to a lot of confusion or even slight embarrassments
加油!
Continuez votre excellent travail~
(I learned a little french when I was in school. I have no idea if what I wrote made sense...)

Merci!
your sentence in French is perfect!
I find very difficult to memorize the tones of chinese words! I do imagine the problem if someone mistaken 买 with 卖 for exemple!
I am more afraid by the pronunciation of certain consonants: for exemple, for me, 京 and 青 sound very similar! On the other side, I find the Chinese grammar relatively simple, with no complex conjugation, and no declensions like in German.
Now, I "just" have to learn several thousands of characters! I should begin with these ancient poems that I like: even if it's not in modern Chinese, it could be very motivating!
(sorry for the late reply, I was a little busy these last days!)

Thank you Elaine,
I'm putting this series on hold now that I've started some other projects though.
To think that I was initially only going to draw one bird for fun,
I now have six bird drawings, haha!
I'll come back to them in the near future because I still have quite a few more ideas for them!
