Another map! And another map!And one for a city as well! Really happy how this one turned out... took a while, used 3 different Photoshop tutorials to make something that worked for GIMP... but, perseverance perseverance perseverance, my friends, and everything falls together.
Okay, so this is a map of the city of Kentdown, capitol of St. Denys province, home base of my current D&D campaign and generic "Starter City" for Novia (as well as D's hometown, but that's beside the point). Population 14,200, second smallest Principal Capitol (After Champlain, Trista), major rail hub, academic centre, and hometown of the St. Denys Highlanders of the United Feildball League! I... spend way to much work on worldbuilding

Hey there DSC! I've been wondering how to make these kinds of city maps in GIMP and would LOVE to learn how you do this. Maybe post a tutorial or something?

My strategy is constantly evolving, and unfortunately that means I don't have a solid tutorial or recommendation, yet. However, if you're wondering about the buildings... I found a city building texture (black and white) from the Cartographer's guild, then used the Colour to Alpha function to cause the white to become transparent, then bucket-filled the houses (alpha to selection) with brown, then overlayed them with a mostly transparent plasma cloud layer (10% or so) to create some variation in roof colouring (should be more, I'll try that the next time I make a map), and then used an inner bezel script I found somewhere... made the 3D-ish effects

That's the most regular city I've ever seen.

It was constructed as a capitol, so it's not quite a natural city... Crossbank and Waterside were all of Kentdown before the nobles and politicians moved in

dd... you know I only post maybe 1/10th of all the stuff I do up here on dA... my Sythan Tribes of Novia map, not here. My Languages of Caelea, not here. The pantheon of the kalfa, not here either. Language and alphabet charts, holidays, family trees, flags and emblems, demographics and culture, INTOXICANTS, FREEKIN SPORTS WITH LEAGUES, PLAYERS, AND HISTORIES!!!
