Description
I recently watched the Wander Over Yonder episode "My Fair Hatey" and Lord Dominator instantly became a new addition to my most favorite cartoon villains(I liked her character since her appearance, but her status as a favorite villain was basically solidified here for that awesome villain song).
So I decided to make a tribute to these awesome bad guys:
Aku (Samurai Jack),
The Shapeshifting Master of Darkness, it's obey or be obliterated with him. Arrogant and sadistic by default, Aku has ruled earth for thousands of years and does not take kindly to disobedience. But despite this, he possesses a dry sense of humor (he's also a source of comedy in the show), mocking Jack whenever he can, which is part of his charm.
The Lich (Adventure Time)
He is driven by a rather single-minded goal: to destroy all life, and shows little interest in anything that does not further his ambitions towards this dark end. He's like the exact opposite of Aku and takes his job to destroy very seriously which is quite scary-cool.
Bill Cipher (Gravity Falls)
Possibly the most powerful here, Bill is an eccentric, insane, psychopathic, and physically irreverent demon who finds most things amusing. Bill originated from the 2nd Dimension. He despises living in there, describing it as a "flat world with flat minds and flat ideas". He favored chaos and destruction over anything else and made it his mission to spread it as far as it could go. He is outrageous and outlandish, as well as a quick talker and thinker. Though he may come across as simply annoying, his abilities are focused around the mind and mental manipulation and after entering the physical world His abilities include: Apportation, Matter Manipulation, Mind Control, Reality Warping, Inter-universal travel, Time Manipulation, Dream Manipulation, Clairvoyance, Cross-universal awareness(is capable of viewing different realities), Innate Capability, Illusion Manipulation, Intangibility, Laser manipulation, Levitation, Molecular Manipulation, Nightmare Inducement, Possession, Precognition, Pyrokinesis, Size shifting, Telekinesis, Telepathy, Madness Inducement(can create bubbles that can induce madness into whatever it touches), Regeneration, Fourth Wall Awareness (is aware of the real world and can "see" us), Soul Removal and Resistance to reality warping and space-time manipulation.
Bill shouldn't be underestimated and watching him work is simply entertaining.
Lord Dominator (Wander Over Yonder)
When she's not wearing her intimidating armour, Dominator is a highly upbeat and energetic girl, declaring what happened with her enemies as "awesome". She seems to be a fangirl of everything evil and behaves like a gleeful teenage girl in private and seems to enjoy talking to herself about her evil exploits. Recently, however, she has been shown to be even more heartless than previously imagined, wanting to destroy the entire galaxy simply for her own amusement. In a way she's like an amalgamation of those previous villains and I find her enthusiasm somewhat relateable.
The Beast (Over the Garden Wall)
He is a mysterious and manipulative being solely motivated by his own self-preservation and is indifferent to the pain and suffering caused by his actions. The Beast is very well spoken and speaks matter-of-factly, traits he uses to lull his victims into a false sense of security. He is a master of deception, knowing exactly what to say to get people under his power.
While his accomplishments aren't very impressive compared to others in the list there is something unsettling about him that makes him equally memorable.
The scene they are in is a reference to another good show I saw growing up,
If you get the reference, you have my respect...

this is perfect; I even see which role each one would fill from that episode
Aku: Joker (I even found myself saying some of the Joker's lines in Aku's voice)
Lich: Two-Face (I can already see www.youtube.com/watch?v=rh8qgK… happening with him and Dominator)
Bill: Penguin (it's mostly the hat and bowtie)
Dominator: Poison Ivy (female, green skin, places zero value on life; need I say more)
Beast: Killer Croc (mainly because he's only one left)

I, uh, do actually. Ya see, I kidnapped two people, who were important to the Batman, and he had to choose one of them to save, or else they would blow up. I told him to go to Avenue X, where his "girlfriend" was, but what he didn't know was that he was going to save his friend, the district attorney, Harvey Dent, because I lied to him. So both of them died, well, one and a half, anyway. So, I pay Dent a visit in the hospital, where he was recovering from his burns from the explosion. And I let him decide to kill me or not. Ya see, he depends on a silver-dollar coin for his decisions, so he flips the coin, while he has a pistol aimed directly to my brain, and, he let me go. So, we went our own ways, and I blew up that hospital we were in, and stole a bus full of innocent civilians for my masterpiece, my Mona Lisa, my Michelangelo. So, the cops and the Batman had surrounded me, and stopped me. BUT! Really, I won. I took the city's white knight, and I brought him down to our level. It wasn't hard. Ya see, madness as you all know is like gravity, all it takes is a little push! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHOAHOAHOHEHEHEHEHEHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHA!!!

Out of them all Lich is the most boring character. He might be creepy (of course until you see anime Monster where being creepy is on the whole other level) but he has really little character, he's just being that likes destroying. Dominator and Aku did it better at least they're not such bore. In that group my favorite must be Beast, his whole appearance, calm voice and very intelligent moves make him really great antagonist and I might sound like fanboy, but as they say word might be stronger than sword and beast might really outsmart all of them, it's clear that any of those have lack in intelligence what can make them easy preys for monster in the shadows.

The fact the Lich has no humanity is why he is memorable, a good villain often requires a personality with some point of reliability, but the Lich is one of the exceptions, like how Aku was before he came in contact with the elixir which gave him individuality, the Lich is an ancient evil, destroying life not because he just likes it (actually Dom's doing that) but because it is his only purpose in life and he will not rest, take breaks or mess around (unlike Aku who sits around most of the time)...
The reason he's not so memorable to others could also be attributed to his sparse appearances in the show, but that's just it, he is always around waiting for an opportunity to fulfill his destiny. And also this mistake of thinking him a conventional "villain" character when in fact he just has no need for quirky personality, its a threat that cannot be reasoned with...
A very serious threat to Finn and Jake as is their land that has risen from desolation of war and extinction, its literally a ghost from that past who wants to finish the job for good

Maybe, but the fact that he got his ass beaten so many times kinda make him less powerful in terms of making emotions in the viewer. Hell the first time we see him was when he get his ass whooped by Billy and that make me feel in the first episode where he was officially introduced that he is just there to make us remember it better. And for the most part that's how I feel about him. He's a plot device. Just try to compare him to another antagonist of this sort that wants extinction of all humans, like Johan Liebert from Monster that I mention before. Sure they look entirely different and power is surely on the side of Lich, but their goal is very similar, they both want death of everyone, but in here Johan is better as a character, more intriguing backstory (Lich story is also very good), much better showing of his place in the story (he's not beaten up so damn easily, he almost never lose) and his interaction with other characters and his whole personality is showed in very good way.
On the Lich side, it's true that he's always trying to reach his goal with determination of.....(man I can't think of anything, but undertale) and his design really is good representation of what he is. But his whole cosmic origin, portrayed as something much older than time is reminding me too much about Cthulhu mythos where power of cosmic nigh-omnipotent being is shown MUCH better. But it's just matter of taste. For me he's just beaten up too many times and shown too many times. I just don't feel like he's so important anymore. If they would show him more rear, try better with personality and NOT shown him being owned like bitch in one of the first episodes he could be good villain and someone much more intimidating. Feel free to give me your opinion.

Well you got a point, but lets remember he isn't cosmically powerful anymore, he is sorta like the powerful will of something cosmic (Possibly the green comet that killed the dinosaurs in this universe), shadow of his former self y'know?
which is most likely why he relies on his knowledge and magic instead of exploding something, I mean he couldn't even kill Jake with his fire right?
He will most probably be the final antagonist of the final season, Im thinking like Sauron

And throwing the ring to volcano? Nah I'm just joking. He most likely be the final enemy, but we don't know it for sure. I know about his comet form, but that's one of the problems. In the episode Gold stars or something like that he showed the king of Ooo what was before universe appeared and himself as someone nigh-omnipotent, something beyond imagination. He might REALLY get up in the final act, but just in the final act. When for the most part he was plot device for some events in adventure time. It's not bad villain, it's just his appearance in most of the show as a character.
It's just my point of view. I just like antagonists that are more intelligent in the things they're doing and are really good example of what they represent. Like Beast in comparison who is from those on your picture my favorite villain. He's great at representing fear of the unknown and how much some beings are beyond our sight and understanding. Also I notice a very great detail in the character of Beast. His song, to be more specific the children voices that are most likely him singing with voices of kids souls he emerged with. It can create really creepy and disturbing feeling about his character when you release it. And that's where Lich lacks, he might create clouds that looks like skulls or show me some Cthulhu visions, but I also want something more hidden, something that I can think about, like personality or some details hidden in the appearance of this character. Being the comet does not count. They show it in one episode.

Sorry, I wasn't really watching any cartoon in a while, but I saw some scenes with him and I gotta say I'm impressed. Still he does not feel that compelling and that he's Bonnibel uncle (or creation in that fact) does not make me involve emotionally as I would want it to be. From Bonnibel perspective it is quite tragic and it explains why everyone in candy kingdom are so goddamn stupid, but I would love it much more if it was also hard from his perspective. He's not any outside force or villain, he's part of her family and yet it seems like none of them are really affected by it which is really disappointing to me. I would LOVE if it wasn't so black and white situation and show that both sides have their own good reasons for what they're doing and show how hard it is for them to do.
Still it's the show where prime reason of hating the father might be that he ate your fries.

TheWatcherofWorlds In reply to Robsonfenixv14 [2018-03-12 03:37:18 +0000 UTC]
Yeah the family ties are not really there, he was just created to be family but all three went a-wall on Bonny very quickly and so the Uncle sees her as competition for his move to greater power and world developing view where bonny wants things simpler and homey. Its basically a royal feud at this point, they do not see either as family in the slightest, not in blood or history.
And it isn't black and white, PB is definitely controlling over others, the Uncle wants to do things his way too, so then this became a fierce power struggle and eventually enemies.
Well that isn't a primary reason why Marceline hates Abadeer, its kinda just an example of his disregard for her as his daughter and being an overall jerk as you can see by the Recent Abadeer episode when he finally came to her by request of Simon and trashed the house house she made carelessly and then went and left her there with the axe before going to suck souls,
maybe at most the fries was the last straw incident that made her went off to live alone away from him as you can see she was a little older by then and in Stakes she was nearing teen when she was living alone.
You gotta see more of the episodes before making such judgements.

Still all of this would give much more weight to the whole situation because in my opinion Gumbald is only interesting because he is PB creation (or uncle). To me antagonists in this show just do not work. To me the best episodes were the ones where there was no ''plot'', but side stories like for example Jake being part of the wall or about Fox and his existential questions, just episodes that were just showing weirdness of this world. Or about Ice King and Marceline. To me Adventure Time works the best when there is no antagonist like Lich or Gumbald, just another adventure that shows another side of this world or present to us interesting viewpoints of this world. When I watched the episode about PB family, my first impression on Gumbald were mixed, on the one hand it was great, it explained really well why PB is trying to control everyone so much, but on the other Gumbald looked to me a little flat, you know, all that talking about getting rid of PB and threatening to harm her brother, it felt a little generic to me. Of course the whole situation is not that black and white, but still there are some points that defines who is good and who is bad.
About Marceline, that was just a joke, I know that she had her issues with him before and that it might just have been the breaking point (for some reason), but it just seemed hilarious to me.
And for now my most important part in this show that I'm most interested in is if Finn and Huntress Wizard will get together, for some reason I LOVE this ship.
