Though I'm not a pony artist, I take photos of my traditional drawings (i used to scan them but then the scanner stopped working ;-; sob) and import them into my art program, then draw and colour over top of them

Well, heheh, to be honest I usually just use bases...
But recently I've started drawing stuff like this theweaveroftales.deviantart.co… which is actually just a traced sketch. I take a sketch, import it (I use MS Paint, so I'm not totally sure how you'd do it with Gimp), trace the lines in black with the curve tool, then (because I'm a cheater) I use Photoshop's threshold filter so it gets nice and clean Then I color it :3
