A scene from a my AU, Young Justice: Blood and Water. This serves as the prologue to the AU, which is really just my version of the story after Phantoms. Taking place before Tula’s death, Aqualad’s undercover mission and Wally’s death, the team is forced to confront the seriousness of their missions after the death of Jason Todd, the second Robin. After a series of aggression and rogue behavior endangering the lives of his teammates, Robin is benched. Desperate to prove himself as a mature member, Robin leaves to find The Light. He was found, beaten to death, with horrific burn wounds.
Nightwing who helped mentor Jason, reveals how the whole thing transpired to Batman himself, and Batman is furious and blinded by his own grief. In his grief, Batman lashes out, blaming the team and Nightwing especially for what happened. Despite reassurance that Batman is just struggling to wrap his head around what happened and how it wasn’t Nightwing’s fault, Dick would live with the guilt of Jason’s death for the rest of his life. It led to him having a close relationship with Tim, and being overprotective of him at points.
