this is the first time I've done a portrait with light coming from that angle, so it was definitely a new challenge! Glad you like it!

the tip is to layer on the shades gradually and make sure they're blended in well. the second part I'm usually very lazy/impatient about but at the same time, i like the rough over-exposed effect it creates heh

The hair is so detailed--I didn't know you could do that with charcoal! The highlights and shadows are amazing; she looks so real!Is this one of the posters for Deathly Hallows, because I think those are the best ones by far. Top notch!

probably one of the biggest obstacles for me with charcoal is when those wispy highlights are flying over darker strands that are going in a different direction. I almost left them out of this piece to avoid it looking awkward, I'm happy you like how it came out though! Yeah it's DH poster, I kinda want to do one of the other ones of her but I've been trying to get around to other characters first.
