wonderful hot colors - I know, hot like Qara - but I love themes like this

Very nice, though it seems a little. . . tame next to Qara's usually fiery (and moody) temper. It's still very nice, though.

Well, since in this series I sort of try doing the characters a bit differently than they are usually portayed, why not make Qara nicer for a change?

Eh, that's true. I guess that's just my personal feelings of the character coming through. (No offense to Qara fans, but I did not like her. I spent the entire game thinking "would you just chill out?" and "would you please stop being so aggressive all the time?" I guess that's why I find it hard to imagine her in a good or neutral mood.)
But, like you said, no one can be angry all the time. With that in mind, this is an excellent portrayal.

Funny thing is that I never had any problems with Qara. Just 'yep' to all her musings, and she's a perfectly fine (and at times even adorably protective) companion

Meh, different people have different opinions of Qara. I personally couldn't bring myself to agree with her musings (she's rude and hostile toward other people, but feels justified to burn, disfigure and/or kill them for being less than perfectly cordial) so I didn't have a friend in her.
