The whole thing appeared to be made out of wood--and hopefully cardboard. It was supported by straps one might use to carry a backpack. As if it was not hot enough in the Convention Center, I could not imagine carrying that giant thing on my back--observe all that sweat steeping through his shirt.DS= [link]

Only the shell was cardboard. The skeleton was entirely made of wood. I tried a DS cosplay years ago and it caved in because of not a strong enough skeleton so I learned my lesson. Of course by doing this it added more weight.

How much does the whole thing weigh?

Approx 50 lbs. Which isn't much but for carrying all day it drags on.
