March, 1941 - March, 2007
Marvel Comics killed him a couple of days ago.
He was an Icon. The Hero that other heroes looked to for guidance and inspiration, like Superman in DC.
Some might think he's out of fashion, some might be glad to see him go. I for one, think that it's going to be a much darker, and much less desirable 616 without him.
