The rasterization of the text is what lets you erase it. The erasing makes it looks like it's behind him.

Generally, using flow in terms of tagnatures is doing something (smudging, brushing, pen tooling) in a specific direction that one must discern when making the tag. Flow can be a really complicated subject, but there are plenty of tutorials out there that explain flow in better detail. I wasn't very clear in the tutorial, though, and I apologize.

Thank you for your effort, but I cannot make any sense of your direction.
In step 2 you said, " smudge with FLOOOOOOOWWWWW"
What do you mean? Are you using the brush tool or the smudge tool?
One can only use flow when using the brush tool and not the smudge tool.
When you say "flow" do you mean:
1. an adjective of your style
2. a plug-in
3. a flow setting I am unaware of

Flow is a sense of direction in the sig...
Flow has a natural direction
It prevents your eyes from being distracted from teh focal
In this sig. the flow is going to the Top right corner....
Also, flow is a GFX term...
Hope this helps

I figured it out.
I used a different brush and raised my strength to 80%. Guess that is what you meant by flow.
Finished the tutorial and am happy with my sig.
Thank you
