Oil on Canvas. 18 x 24" This took me several days -- what with the underpainting and all the details. I took artistic liberties with the reference photo as I wound up liking the warmer reds as opposed to the white-ish sands. The photo here seems a bit purple-ish but it's not a good day to go outside and take photos...Related content

I love the colors, really compliment the greens and gives the feeling of spring!!

I used some crimson in the sandy areas to highlight the greens -- sadly the photograph turned it somewhat purplish!!

You know, I think it matters so much what the light conditions are when I take the photos. The "purplish" is really more reddish (alizarin crimson) and I noticed that immediately when I saw the photo. I always photograph outdoors with natural light but the cloud conditions will still affect the colors some. It's best to photograph on partly-cloudy days but I was too eager to wait!
