Description
For the species swap contest! man there are so many cool species and characters in this OCT I couldn't pick just one ^^Enjoy the army of sphinxes
Here's some info on each au sfink.
Species: Gnome/Gnolahi by
"The butterfly guardian"
When caring for your garden always make sure not to kill any caterpillars you find, and always release the insects that happen to wander into your house. If you're gentle to the tiny critters in your garden and plant plenty of flowers you might attract something else than just butterflies. Soon you'll realize that your garden blooms beautifully and grows to be more colorful and lush than ever before, and mysteriously any pests will start to avoid it. Sometimes if you don't make too much noise you might even catch a glimpse of a timid white creature collecting butterflies into it's hat.
Species: Kurri by
"The feather collector"
This bizzare young kurri seems to love to collect rozenich feathers and even tries to decorate himself by glueing them onto his body. His behavior is unusual, but aside from one incident in which a rozenich child tried to bite his ears off when he plucked their ear feathers, it's pretty harmless and easily explained. Afterall it's not too hard to believe that the young alien is simply fascinated with the raptor-people's vibrant colouration, absent in the pelts of his own species.
What ISN'T easily explained however is his uncanny climbing ability. There have been many cases in which he caused general panic by suddenly going missing, only to be found napping on the topmost branches of one of the nearby trees. Nobody knows how he does it or how it's even physically possible. Just one more unexplained mystery of the universe, it seems.
Despite the problems he causes, he doesn't seem to have much trouble with his studies and his rozenich fascination will surely aid him in his future job. Lately he's been trying to learn the rozenich language and, troublemaker or not, most kurri have to admit that hearing him chirp is kinda adorable.
Species: Rozenich by
"the clever boy"
A juvenile rozenich unfortunate enough to not only be born an absolute runt but also without the protective belly scales characteristic for the species. Because of this more soft and fragile build he's been having a pretty hard time getting his share of food without being trampled by his peers, which didn't help his stunted growth. Luckily he adapted to his predicament pretty quickly by using his small size and unnaturally dull, earthy colouration to his advantage and learning to steal food from others instead. If you see a hungry and angry rozenich causing mayhem it's very likely that it's just another victim of this fluffy bandit.
His thievery isn't exclusive to only food however. He's infamous for finding ways to sneak into kurri buildings undetected and snatching up books, or anything else that might interest him. He seems to have a basic grasp on how to use kurri technology, though is mostly self-taught. If you gain his trust he might even show you his secret stash of stolen tablets.
Species: a stick Cuauhmaitl by
"the living hint box"
When travelling throught the labyrinth or facing it's challenges it's not uncommon to get stuck on a puzzle. If you find yourself in such a predicament, make sure to loudly make the situation known. If you do you should soon be approached by a tiny plant snake. This critter is very good at camouflaging amongst the labyrinth's flora so it's possible that he was already in the same room watching you struggle. He will offer you help with solving the puzzle in exchange for a shiny or interesting trinket. There was once a case in which a contestant offered his soul to the creature only to wake up next morning with the soles of his shoes gone. Upon recieving his payment, the stick-critter will give you a hint about the puzzle's solution, usually vague or in the form of a riddle. If that's not enough to help you, you can of course ask for more hints in exchange for more trinkets.
Perhaps if you're lucky some day you'll come across a small chamber in the labyrinth where the small serpent sleeps on his huge pile of treasure accumulated over the years.
Stealing might not be a wise decision however, as the tiny cobra's fangs are loaded with sap-like venom.
Species: Bust-A-Bout by
"the 5 foot tall menace"
An unusually small Northern B-A-B. Although he was orphaned at a pretty young age, he retained a happy-go-lucky and upbeat attitude and... scammed and stole his way through life. He doesn't stick just to regular pickpocketing and enjoys pulling off bigger heists, or cause issues to big figures both in society and in the criminal underworld, seemingly just for entertainment. It's probably not a suprise that he tends to take those 'pranks' a bit too far and now, due to his illegal actions he has a whole bunch of both righteous and dangerous folk dead set on hunting him down. All things considered he thinks it's still better than getting abducted by a mafia, and especially better than being dead. He still carries out different schemes, and though cunning and smart, he evidently has more luck than he has common sense.
He generally hides away in forests, not really staying in one spot for long, out of the fear of being found out, as although as a Northener he has some means to defend himself in the form of the blades on his legs, he's still not the courageous type.
Species: Forest Spirit by
"The curious cryptid"
A forest spirit living in a small nature reserve. He seems to have come into being relatively recently and despite his frightening appearance has a gentle, curious personality. He's very intrigued by everyone and everything that happens to find it's way into his forest. He can crawl on walls and ceilings in quite a creepy fashion using his claws, and will often cling to trees and cave walls pretending to be just part of the local flora. Using this camouflage he quietly follows his 'visitors', sometimes stealing interesting items or food from them when they're not looking. The cryptid is known to be mostly peaceful and even kind, leading those who get lost in his woods back towards a common path, assuming that they don't flee as soon as they see him. He usually speaks with bird sounds but does have the ability to mimic voices and previously heard phrases to hold a conversation.
One thing the creature cannot stand however are poachers, and will usually try to scare them away or stab them with his long claws if they try to attack him. There was even one incident in which a hunter was found with his leg torn clean off. It seems this behavior is caused by the fact that any pain from damage done to an animal in the forest through man-made means (getting shot, getting caught in a bear trap etc) appears to be also felt by the spirit.
Species: Vima by
"The survivor"
A seemingly sole survivor of whatever event caused the vima village's destruction. He can't remember what happened and why it happened, as if his memory from that day was completely wiped. All he recalls was at some point being in a dark void-like space, unconscious perhaps. A strange many-eyed beast approached him. She said that she knew of a way to save him, and that she can help him if he agrees to help her in return. Next thing he knows he woke up in an unknown location with no idea how long he was gone for. For a while he thought of his strange encounter as just a dream and started looking for a new place to call home and hopefully live a normal life. Soon however he started having more and more dreams about the strange beast. She persistently asked for him to look for answers and find out what happened to his people. Begrudgingly, he obliged, fearing the consequences of breaking his agreement. On his journey he came across many dangerous predicaments, often just barely escaping death. Every time they happen he can't shake the feeling that something is wrong... that perhaps he wasn't supposed to have survived.
Species: Machine by... well technicly it's not a species made by someone but some people made their characters robots in the OCT so... it counts right? (let me have my synthetic animals XD)
"The forgotten"
Once there was a civilization, which was obsessed with progress. At an incredible rate they created new advancements, new discoveries and new creations. With time they created more and more advanced machines, ways to reach new heights, and even ways to defy death and the order of nature itself. Until one day the civilization discovered everything there was to be discovered, used up all the resources there were to use up, and made creations that could no longer be perfected. Soon after they dissappeared, leaving behind nothing but the remnants of their old experimentation. No one knows what happened to them. Perhaps they were simply wiped out by something they couldn't control . After all could they really be so cruel to create something only to leave it behind all alone?
