Description
Here's another trio of zombies. Beware, these are pretty dangerous.1.Tortured Souls:
The tortured soul is a rare variety of zombie that rarely leaves the solace of their hideout. Tortured Souls are zombies that died from torture or other methods of extreme pain before reanimating and walking again, this cause of death gives Tortured Souls a ghastly and disgusting look, often scarred, cut, and disfigured. Some believe that the Tortured Souls were patients of experimental cures and tests before the world was overrun, others know that they were tortured by those who were going insane and found the infected person and tortured them. The Tortured souls are one of the few varieties of zombies that feel some variety of emotion, like the Mercy feels regret and sorrow for it's victim, Tortured Souls feel fear carried from their past life and often times will avoid contacts with even other zombies. Similar in movements to the Crawler, the emotional problems are the only difference between them, if Tortured Souls meet, they will stick together for as long as possible, sensing each others pain some argue. Often times Souls will stay in dark buildings and simply wait until it is completely secure outside to move and find carrion of some sort so they don't have to hunt, many survivors tend to think of the Souls as coward zombies.
Recorded Encounter:
(Taken from debriefing of Master Sergeant Chuck Peterson, US Army Special Forces, ODA 434 by Captain Thomas Kenneth)
Kenneth: "We've been over most of this, but command informs me you and your fireteam discovered a new breed this time out. Is that so?"
Peterson: "Yes sir, that's right. May I have a cigarette?"
Kenneth: "Sergeant Ferrel said that you discovered a new breed but they didn't attack you, in a....prison. Is this true?"
Peterson: "Yes sir, we were moving through a former correctional facility trying to find a lost child of a refugee. The power was off and the sun was setting so we left Sergeants Mac and Chu to watch the refugees then moved in using the NVGs."
Kenneth: "Describe the new breed."
Peterson: "Well we came into the infirmary and we were surrounded by at least 15-20, looked like the Crawler variety but didn't move or even groan at us, they just stared."
Kenneth: "Did you engage?"
Peterson: "Not immediately, before engaging a quick survey showed these were covered in cuts and bruises, they looked tortured. I ordered First Sergeant Ramirez to grab a picture of several of them if possible. When he did several of them screamed at us and tumbled backwards..........They sounded like they were crying.
Kenneth: "What next Sergeant?"
Peterson: "I told the fireteam to engage at which time we all fired into the crowd and killed them all, we then placed thermite grenades through the bodies and left."
Kenneth: "I see. Did you find the boy?"
Peterson: "Yes sir, he was DOA in one of the cells, evidence of a Hunter was present so we evacuated."
Nicknames:
The Wicked, The Unwanted, The Tormented
Groupings:
Unknown exactly, as small as 1 or as large as 60 but scientists believe there is no limit once they've found each other.
2.Crumblies
aka dustbunnies, tumbleweeds, windriders, cloudkill.
In traveling through arid parts of the American southwest, I've occasionally seen this crawler variant. Evidence suggests that infected who die in extremely dry, hot conditions may take an unusually long time to reanimate, and during the interim the corpse undergoes significant dessication. The result is a shriveled, withered zombie somewhat resembling an unwrapped Egyptian mummy. (They also tend to fall over in strong winds.) These creatures reanimate with faster-than-normal movement rate, but significantly lowered strength. The danger these creatures pose should not be underestimated, however. Any damage done to them tends to result in the release of large clouds of fine, powdery dust. This dust is actually skin and muscle tissue that has dried into a highly friable state, while remaining virulently infectious. This dust can be carried for many miles on the wind, and on contact with the lungs, eyes, or sinus tissue of a living person, can infect the victim without any external wound. Combating these creatures is therefore an extremely tricky, and dangerous proposition. A zombie of this type killed in water does not release the infectious cloud, but will contaminate the entire body of water, rendering it useless for drinking unless extreme purification measures are taken. Fire MAY be effective in dealing with them, but it requires an extremely large, hot blaze to effectively contain the cloud. Insufficient burning can actually increase the infectious plume, as the updraft from the fire serves to carry the dust higher into the atmosphere, allowing it to be carried farther downwind.
Threat: medium-high
Magnetism: massive (groups of 50-150 subjects)
3.Heathen
A creature of extreme horror, the heathen is a rare and malignant breed. The virus begins to repurpose body parts, creating a monster no longer human. First, the rib cage begins to rise, armoring the head. Then the petuatary gland begins to reactivate, going on overdrive, causing bones to grow, stretching the fingers and filling the gaps between the rib bones. At this point, only explosive devices can kill this creature. The final stage of evolution is the covering of the entire body by bone. At this point, the heart willm start beating again, to keep the body movable. The chest opens up, the new mouth. Sending a grenade into the stomach cavity is the only way to kill them.
Recorded attacks:
"We found a den, a place full of cannibalized remains, including the man we were looking for. The creature then rose up, it's ambush complete. First, it grabbed the nearest soldier, gutting him like a fish. Then he reached for me. Acting quickly, I threw a frag into the thing's chest hole, then dodged the claw to the right. Firing a few bullets at the thing's head, the bullets just richochetted off the clear bone armor. BOOM! The grenade exploded just then, killing the creature."
