Description In my Art Class, we had to make a pencil drawing, using lightning techniques based on an existant piece of art, keeping some original elements and adding a few more. My was inspired by a World of Warcraft concept. It's been a while that I didn't draw a Harry Potter fan art, in college I used to draw something about the series frequently...

I made it, in a A3 format paper. On pencil. 54cm X 60cm.

Hope that you could forgive me for mistaking the Hippogryph for a Gryph.

This is excellent - I particularly love the fact that the characters aren't likenesses of the film actors. It's nice to see something that relates to the book instead. And I'm sorry about everyone bitching about tracing. It's obviously not traced - the details don't match with the original picture - and you say in your artist's comments that it had to be based on another artwork for your course.

I copied from a computer monitor, and did it on paper, was part of the artclass exercise.

if i build a lego castle from a kit, I did not create the theme. why can't people see that? or perhaps I try to hard and don't do a good job of copying anything.
I had copy assignments too at school. but I was told to do it over, because it came out "nothing like the original".

it is hard to work from memory

Amazing work! There are so many wonderful things I could say about it. I love the black and white, the perspective, Buckbeak's front talons, and the fierce look in his eyes. Harry and Hermione came out great as well, and you did a great job on using the clouds to pull it all together.

Ryengu [2011-08-08 21:51:12 +0000 UTC]

Heck, just change the title and a few features of the characters on the critter's back and it doesn't have to be tied down to harry potter. Why not have your very own thing?

As part of the art class exercise, it's suppoused to be based on a picture, art piece or sculpture.

TheFlamesFightBack38 In reply to MusicalLemons [2011-08-08 23:58:10 +0000 UTC]

It's NOT traced, actually. If you look at the feet, they're lion's paws, not horse's hooves, proving she didn't trace the Harry Potter version, yet Harry Potter is one the back, proving it's not another trace. Plus, you know, you shouldn't assume things.

MusicalLemons In reply to TheFlamesFightBack38 [2011-08-09 00:15:19 +0000 UTC]

If not traced, it's heavily referenced. Small features were changed on the animal, and people were replaced.

TheFlamesFightBack38 In reply to MusicalLemons [2011-08-09 00:41:55 +0000 UTC]

Heavily referenced was the point of her assignment, so of course that's what it is, and even so, it's still an excellent drawing. Hence, it got a Daily Deviation.

MusicalLemons In reply to TheFlamesFightBack38 [2011-08-09 00:48:15 +0000 UTC]

I know, it's not the artist I have anything against.

What I don't understand is why one that was heavily referenced off of copyrighted work off was given a DD, especially when the artist has original artwork in their gallery.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheFlamesFightBack38 In reply to MusicalLemons [2011-08-09 00:51:45 +0000 UTC]

Because it was suggested and someone on the committe saw it, saw the skill it took to draw, and agreed to make it a DD. (Also, thank you for not being one of those people who bashes DD artists who don't have things they like.)

MusicalLemons In reply to TheFlamesFightBack38 [2011-08-09 01:04:23 +0000 UTC]

Well, all right. I do see your point. Personally, I would just rather be known for my original artwork than one that used a reference, but I guess that would just be me. I knew that the artist didn't choose what gets a DD or not either, it's Deviantart staff itself. Thinking about it, I shouldn't have taken it out at the artist in the comment, and I do admit my mistake. ( Those people actually really bug me )

TheFlamesFightBack38 In reply to MusicalLemons [2011-08-09 19:57:08 +0000 UTC]

And I totally understand your point, too- original artwork is definitely something that most people would prefer to see. And as I said before, I am so glad you're not one of those spammy hate people.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

WDWParksGal In reply to MusicalLemons [2011-08-09 02:36:10 +0000 UTC]

Not the dA staff. Just me. I looked at the reference and this is a pencil work that is decidedly different. It isn't traced, it isn't in color, it has HP characters added, the background is muted and the bird/characters are the center of the deviation instead of being just part of an overall picture. Admittedly, I am a Harry Potter fanatic, but this was recommended by the suggester and not other art in the gallery. If you have further comments, feel free to note me. I answer my notes and comments.

Aconitum-Napellus In reply to VelCake [2011-08-09 10:27:12 +0000 UTC]

Well said I'd like to see an artwork that doesn't take references from anything. I have no idea what it would look like, but I suspect it would be terrible Hell, if you do a drawing of a tree while sitting in a room with no windows you're still referencing trees you've seen in the past!
