Description
In my Art Class, we had to make a pencil drawing, using lightning techniques based on an existant piece of art, keeping some original elements and adding a few more. My was inspired by a World of Warcraft concept. It's been a while that I didn't draw a Harry Potter fan art, in college I used to draw something about the series frequently...I made it, in a A3 format paper. On pencil. 54cm X 60cm.
Hope that you could forgive me for mistaking the Hippogryph for a Gryph.

While this is excellently drawn, the characters' portrayals are not quite good. Harry's expression is convincing, but Hermione did not enjoy the ride on Buckbeak (Witherwings) in both the book and the movie. As for Buckbeak himself......front half bird, back half horse. Long story short.
So, the effort is obvious, but I have to give this piece a 7.75 out of 10.

It's because they traced the wow thing they linked to lol, so its not really buckbeak.

Why is the front left claw coming out from under the left leg? I would have liked it except for that one aspect.

Using a pencil and paper is how tracing is traditionally done
Thiagobuzzy undoubtedly heavily referenced the gryphon from WOW, but he did not trace it.
Yet, there are so many other original pieces of his that could have been used as DD... I think using this one is an injustice to his artistic ability.

I spoke generally. Please prevent yourself from rebutting everyone's comments, because we are all are entitled to our opinions. Loitering, in order to reply to all those who share a different view than you, creates unnecessary irritation and potential argumentation. (This can also be explained metaphorically: you're jumping in front of the target and opening yourself to arrows that weren't aimed at you.) You appear to be taking our commentary as a personal attack and are becoming quite flustered by it; nobody is blaming you, and disclaiming your actions is an unnecessary defensive measure. I am sure we all agree that ThiagoBuzzy is an exceptional artist, so the focus should remain on him and not be turned onto you.

I don't care if it's generally, I'm refering to your comment.
No I won't prevent myself, since I'm the suggester, therefore I feel responsible for the negative response on the DD, hence why I'm taking it personally.
Anyway, you totally missed my point, which was the fact that I DID suggest other pieces from the artist but they weren't picked, and this one was. So don't complain on that. I tried.

Who said I was complaining? You seemed to miss the point of my comment, and you should probably read over it again.
To clarify, I replied to your comment based entirely on fact that you did suggest other pieces. Yes, the one who approved the DD should have chosen one of the other suggestions you made, yet you are not responsible for the fact that the chooser chose this one. It's not your problem; don't make it so.
(Hypothetically, if the issue at hand was actually your "fault", then you messed up; I doubt any one is going to have a vendetta against you, because nobody cares that much.)
I never addressed my original comment towards you, and didn't reference you (as I said before, I Spoke Generally). This isn't about you. This about the artist and the piece, so again, you should avoid drawing attention to yourself.

It doesn't matter what you say, I still take responsability. The same way that when someone says 'this doesn't deserve a DD' the GM always takes it personally.
Whatever though.

How is using a pencil and paper tracing?
👍: 0 ⏩: 3
micai In reply to FineShit [2011-08-09 18:10:26 +0000 UTC]
Examples of traditional tracing methods include the use of a light box ([link] ) or a computer screen ([link] ).
(I do not wish to digress further; I'm simply pointing out that tracing with traditional means is possible, and I repeat that I am not accusing the artist of doing this.)

Maybe... The paper must have been pretty thin so the artist could see what was placed under it.

When the pencil and paper are used to trace an existing image, I'm fairly sure that's called tracing.

I'm the suggester so complaining on that is nearly as a direct attack to me, I feel responsible for people's opinions. I could tell you the same, if you don't like it, don't look at it.
