o.k. after a (very) short demo turn I bought Octane straight away .... and ..... instantly became addicted

The standalone version is absolutely ok ! I have bought the plugin, but after having tried it, I'm back to daz + standalone version. I think you have a better control on what you're doing with the standalone version (plus I like the interface). Of course, this is just my opinion ...
