Sam has always hated thunderstorms. They were the thing of nightmares for him...even as an adult. He wouldn't admit it now,but as s child...thunderstorms would cause him to wet his bed. It was beyond embarrassing. This issue has began after his mother died. The car accident...it was thundering...and Sam was with his mother. It was just like any other normal drive in the rain...but the thunder...so loud. And before he knew it..Sam heard a screeching noise and then everything went black. He saw the light fade from his mother's eyes as he blood cascaded out of her body. The thunder...the lightning...it had taken Mommy away.

The only thing that calmed Sam down..that would end the nightmares...was his father's touch. When his father would hold him...all of Sam's stress ceased to exist. It would melt away in those big, strong arms. All his fears...all the thunder...gone. He remembered his father's warm and soothing breath on his ear as he spoke. "I'm here, Sam. I'll always be here. The thunder can't hurt you."

But then...one day...Daddy didn't come home. It was raining and thundering and lightning....the thunder...it took Daddy away, too. It just wasn't fair. Why was the thunder so cruel?

20 years had passed and throughout those years...when the world was damp and the thunder vibrated in his ear drums and the lightning flashed in front of his eyes...Sam would cry. He would shake and scream and beg for someone...and not just anyone...to hold him again. He wanted Daddy to hold him...hold him tight.

He had him...he had Dad back. Back in the real world. And here he thought he would always be alone,but...no. Dad was back and he brought a friend. And Dad had praised Sam for all his hard work on the Grid...so rescuing him. Sam couldn't be happier. But...the first night his Dad had returned...that dreaded thunder threatened to take him away again. Sam sobbed in his old room silently, clutching the small pillow tight, trying not to make much noise. He couldn't stand it...what if Dad...what if Daddy wasn't there in the morning? He wanted to be held...just like before...just like all those thunderstorms before.

"D-dad...I-" Sam opened the door slowly, his bare feet sliding slightly on the wooden floors. He was relieved when he heard his father answer.

The older man shifted in the bed, sitting up and spoke. "What is it, Sam?" His voice sounding sweet,but tired.

"I...the thunder-" Before Sam could finish his thought, a particularly loud crackle of thunder and blazing flash of lightning struck right outside the near window. Sam screamed out grabbing on tightly to his loose black t-shirt he always dawned with his paw print pajama pants.

"Sam..." Kevin leaned up closer, motioning for his son to lay down next to him. Sam was hesitant at first...after all...he was 27,but...

"Dad..." Sam choked between sobs of broken cries. "...I...I..."

"Shhh." His father whispered gently, holding him close and tight and making him feel so warm and so so loved. "I'm here, Sam. I'll always be here. The thunder can't hurt you."
