Description
It took me a while but I finally finished this!It turned out ...longer than I expected (clever use of understatements here, uh?
I tried to keep the captions to a minimum and semplify the steps, but I had to split it in two parts anyway
I was a little hesitant to call it a "tutorial" - I'm still trying to figure out a way to achieve a really realistic miniature pizza.
This is the best result I've achieved so far, but there still are some flaws that I need to fix..
I'm open to suggestion! Especially about the tomato sauce part
Part 1

this is a great tutorial!
one question though: sorry if this is stupid is there a significant difference between TLS and fimo liquid? i mean overall its just liquid clay, but does it make a difference when using it?Β

thinkpastel In reply to xBlueBreeze [2013-11-24 14:18:04 +0000 UTC]
Oh no, this is actually a good question!
TLS and Fimo Liquid are essentially the same thing, they work in the same way and you can easily substitute one for the other; however there are slight differences between them, and if you're as picky as me you'll end up using both, depending on which effect you want to obtain..
For ex. 'unbaked' TLS is white, while Fimo Liquid is transparent; TLS becomes transparent after baking, but in my opinion it makes it more difficult to get the right color, especially if your going for a light shade like white, or light yellow etc. It may look as if you have the right hue but after baking it becomes all transparent and meh.
On the other hand, Fimo Liquid is, well, very liquid, while TLS is more 'thick' and sort of easier to work with.. Fimo Liquid tends to 'run' if you use too much, however this is useful if you want a really smooth effect, TLS more clumpy.
TLS is also less expensive, eheh

Thanks for the tutorial! For the tomato sauce, add a tiny amount of orange paint.

This is fantastic! I love both the tutorial and the pizza, they're both so detailed and interesting.
I'd try this myself but for the lack of materials, not to mention skill with these things. You, on the other hand, are a master!

thinkpastel In reply to SecretagentG [2013-04-08 16:23:24 +0000 UTC]
Ooooh thank you
Lack of materials definitely is a issue here, but skill isn't! It doesn't really take any talent, just a little practice maybe?
If you ever get the chance to use some clay you should definitely give this a try!

Hm, try crushing up the salt before you put it in the sauce. It would still give it texture but just the right amount.

thinkpastel In reply to Myyshka [2011-10-09 14:30:27 +0000 UTC]
What do you mean by 'crushing up' the salt? *feels ignorant*
π: 0 β©: 1
Myyshka In reply to thinkpastel [2011-10-09 18:17:42 +0000 UTC]
Lol I mean you could put the salt in a little baggy or even a paper towel (to make sure it doesn't go all over the place) and then hit it with something heavy like a hammer or anything really, so that it breaks up into smaller pieces and you'll get a more realistic texture for your "sauce"

DECODE OF POLYMER CLAY PIZZA MAKING MYSTERY
Hm...I don't normally think of pizza sauce as lumpy....perhaps that's just me though. Personally I would have made it a bit darker...perhaps that would have made it better? I think the table salt is genius, I see no issue in that texture.
π: 0 β©: 1
thinkpastel In reply to MisttheWarrior [2011-09-27 12:04:07 +0000 UTC]
I was inspired to use table salt because of Talty's cinnamon roll tutorial!
Some pizza have liquid-watery tomato sauce, other have a lumpy sauce instead.. it depends on wheter you chop your tomatoes finely or coarsely and, also, if you add water or not. I love the second kind more
(I'm a pizzaholic
)

MisttheWarrior In reply to thinkpastel [2011-09-27 21:58:54 +0000 UTC]
Ah, of course!
Hm...I had gazpacho the other night and my mom put breadcrumbs in it, so I had the thought...what about adding finely grinded breadcrumbs? The texture can be modified, and I think its a really nice in-between lumpy-liquid mixture, yet still semi-homologous (which is really what tomato sauce is!)
It would be perfect if it baked well...do you have any idea if that would work?
π: 0 β©: 1
thinkpastel In reply to MisttheWarrior [2011-10-09 16:07:02 +0000 UTC]
You mean actual bread crumbs? I've never tried adding 'real' food to my minis - I'm afraid they might draw insects, like it often happens with salt dough - so I'm not sure
Do you think it would work if baked?
π: 0 β©: 1
MisttheWarrior In reply to thinkpastel [2011-10-09 17:23:51 +0000 UTC]
Very possibly...the TLS would cover them, so they probably wouldn't spoil...it's like adding a layer of permanent plastic over it.
...in theory, it would work. I've seen other people make PC bread and add real seeds on the top...so I think it would.
Salt dough attracts insects, but you use salt in your creations. Perhaps the PC helps keep animals out of it? Probably covers up the smell.
