Description I was inspired to make a miniature teapot after I saw this adorable one .
I originally intended to make a cinnamon roll () to go with the tea, but I didn't have enough time so I made the crappy cookies instead

Santa, please, bring me some spare time this Christmas!
Everything is handmade in a 1:6 scale

One day I was at work, having my break with a work colleague.
I had a cup of tea and was dunking a biscuit into it, a ginger-thin
I critically overestimated the absorbency of the biscuit, as I pulled it out, I saw it start to break away
I let out a loud shriek of genuine panic as i tried to stop it from falling, only to hopelessly watch as half of it fell into milky brown surface
As I slumped over the desk in a fit of woe and despair, my colleague said it was the most high-pitched noise she'd ever heard me make

I don't remember much of what happened afterwards, I just know that on my way home, a lot of people died

How did you make the "tea" inside the cup look like that? Like shiny and transparent?
Or perhaps it's just paint...

I used Liquid Fimo (transparent, liquid polymer clay) mixed with a tiny amount of powdered chalk

this is a really great work you have. I never knew that clay could be crafted to look as close to the real object as this. suppose you don't put in the second pic, I'd probably mistake it as a photograph instead. -shrug-

I really like the teapot and teacup in particular. the dots made them look more interesting and the cookies simply make me hungry. I really like the varieties in the cookies, too. the colors on top of the cookies are also nice combined with the whole tea set.

overall, great work. thanks for such cute and detailed design you simply introduced to me. thanks too for such bright colors you used. reminded me of nice mornings spent with a cup of tea. I also took a slight peek of your gallery and just wanted to note that all your works are just beautiful. I had some hard time telling which are clay and which are real. haha. you sure have a great skill there. good luck on your next works!

How did you make the teacup and teapot so perfectly and smooth? I try so hard but it always fails. And it's hard to keep white clay clean.. Do you have a tutorial or something?

thinkpastel In reply to xirmax [2012-07-01 07:25:27 +0000 UTC]

I always use lots of baby powder (on my workspace, hands and clay itself) to prevent dust and hairs to stick on the clay.
Once the clay is baked and cooled down, I sand it with fine sandpaper to even out any imperfection

Is the liquid inside the teacup TLS and acrylic paint?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

thinkpastel In reply to NinaBeezy [2012-03-26 16:18:43 +0000 UTC]

Fimo Liquid and chalks, but yeah the concept is basically the same and you can achieve a similar result with TLS and paint (although oil paint is better than acrylic paint)

how are you so amazing at miniatures?! I tried to create a teapot 3 times when I saw this, but they all turned out as failures

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

thinkpastel In reply to XTheBlueOwlX [2011-09-22 18:39:32 +0000 UTC]

Aw thank you
But I wouldn't be too upset about "failures"! This kind of miniatures is way harder than regular "food" miniatures. I have a lot of problems with these myself, I have to make them over and over dozen of times before getting a decent piece (I curse like a sailor whenever I try to make miniature pottery. Really. I'll go to hell )

I'm hesitant to make a tutorial about these kind of things as I'm still struggling to find the best/easiest way to make them. But as soon as I make some progress, I'll share them

This is really amazing!

Thehehe, I'm still quite the beginner when it comes to cups and plates.. I'm really not ready to write a tutorial just yet
Anyway, for the cups - I start with a small cilinder, then I gently press my pinky on the top of the cilinder , while moving it in a circular motion.. basically in the same way you would make a vase with a potter's wheel.. not sure if this makes sense, lol
And thanks!
