Description
Turns out, according to medieval mythology, cockatrice (or basilisks, if you like) hatch from eggs laid by roosters. That's right, roosters. No big stretch of the imagination I suppose, considering the anus (which is also kinda sorta the urinary tract, though birds don't urinate the same way we do) and birth canal of the hen connect to the same exit, but I digress. Ansel's mother was a man. Roosters can get pregnant and give birth in this universe. The more I thought about it the more fascinating it became. "How do they conceive?" I thought "Do they need to mate or is it an immaculate conception dealio?" I chose the former, pretty sure nothing more complex than an amoeba can just randomly generate copies like that. Anyway, the first option is more fun. I also reckoned that egg-bearing roosters must be a minority because cockatrice are god-mode AF and can apparently kill people just by touching them, breathing on them, or looking at them, and only weasels are immune. You don't want too many cockatrice in the world, it'd make things a little too... unbalanced. Add the relative rarity of these individuals to the fact that, as in our own world, homosexuals are themselves a minority, and most of those roosters will never know they've got it in 'em, and by "it" I mean "lady bits." I'll bet militaries and revolutionary groups the whole world over throughout history were only too happy to see a cockatrice join their ranks.
"But wait," I thought again "if cockatrice are that dangerous, shouldn't Terra Furra's militaries be, like, solely comprised of them? Pre-civil rights era Terra Furran society was as obsessed with pedigree as a horse breeder, why weren't the ruling elite encouraging roosters to form homosexual relationships to mass-produce super soldiers?"
That's a multi-tiered issue, but I say it's the handiwork of the church, primarily. See, Terra Furra is basically just Earth with furries, so their history pretty much went down exactly like ours, meaning Christianity, Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy and the like were, and still are, a really huge deal. And because same-sex relationships were traditionally taboo in societies founded upon the Abrahamic religions, a cockatrice passing through some quaint Victorian village in England or trying to enter a posh theater in the Kaiser's Germany to see Rookeo and Gerbilet... well, most would be too scared to antagonize them, but let's just say it'd be a good day if nasty looks and hushed gossip was the worst they walked away with.
TL;DR the ruling elite of Europe could've bred super Saiyans but none of them did since because homophobia.
Well, not none of them. Even in occidental history, reactions toward homosexuality differed drastically depending on where and when you were. For instance, since Poland's founding in 966, there were no laws concerning homosexuality until Russia, Prussia, and Austria imposed their own laws around the end of the 18th century, Same-sex relationships in Turkey have been legal since before the American Civil War, and anti-homosexual laws in France went out the window after the revolution. So I wouldn't be surprised if, in Terra Furra, Poland and France are not only okay with the existence of cockatrice, they actually encourage their roosters to sleep with dudes on the off chance a bouncing baby basilisk will be born. They've probably each got a whole battalion full of cockatrice. Terrible, horrible, kill-you-if-you-make-eye-contact, damn-near-invincible-to-any-poor-sod-who-isn't-a-weasel cockatrice.
No wonder wolf Hitler wanted Poland and France out of the way. :'D

Except, maybe, if we're talking about parthenogenesis.

The cockatrice mythΒ meant that a rooster fathered the egg, not laid it. Reports have a tendency to be garbled up over time.
Also, those old days in Europe always made males more prominent than females that mothers are barely mentioned.

Actually that is kind not true.
Stumbled across this Zoology book from the 1600s that was commissioned by some duke and the author also went into several mythological beasts. Now it has been a while but basically Cockatrices can be layed by a rooster after he reaches a certain age. The egg was soft much like that of a snake and can be incubated by toad or a snake. The author also has little stories related to each creature that were popular, in this case it was about two cocks in some village near Paris I think (honestly dont remember the name) that layed a few eggs and were VERY fiercely guarding them till the locals strangled them and smashed the eggs.
Given that this book was most definately basing its inforation on earlier sources like Medieval Beastiaries I am willing to bet that cockatrice mythos is older than the 17th century. Sooooo in short no, a cock can lay an egg and father a snake chicken.
And these are two anthro cocks that fucked and made a half demonic chicken snake demon spawn that can kill you with it's looks, I think strenching the imagination a bit is kinda pointless in this case.

Cocks don't lay eggs, they're male.
And as I said also on this comment section, we might be talking about parthenogenesis.

Did you miss the part where this is a MYTHOlOGICAL creature?
Werewolves dont exist either but there was a hell of scare of them in France around and after that time. And lets not forget that vampire craze that happened too that prompted Stocker to write his famous novel.
There is one medieval entry that says BEARS regular ass bears give birth to their cubs and LICK THEM INTO SHAPE as if they were a lump of playdoh.
Yeah cocks dont lay eggs but that didnt stop French peasants going on a homophobic rampage and killing animals and making up stories. Stories that are the basis for these fictional characters.

Hahaha, you are talking about yourself right? Right? Right? You are the one trying to shoe horn biology into European Mythology.
Or do I have to explain this again?

In the VI century, homosexuality was considered like a crime and gays were enjailed, tortured and murdered by fire, to purify them. In France this crime was called "bougrerie", and the criminals "bougres", which mean "bulgarians". Yes, homosexuality was considered as a bulgarian thing !

Gotta love medieval beastiaries eh? Only a handfull but still having some of the most interesting and retarded bit of old world lore I've ever read. Like those bears am I right?
But you also gotta consider that a mythological murder machine army goes out the window the minute gunpowder or an advancement in metalurgy comes to play. Can't really touch-kill someone when a few filthy peasants shoot a volley crossbow bolts at you or if the enemy decided to play with their new artillery guns eh?
Lastly these two mythological mutants are cool and Turkey....hehehehe.
