Forest Friend is actually canon, though not as this species or colour; in my headcanon it's mainly the Bears who deal with human-oriented caring missions while most Cousins focus on animals and ecosystems, so I changed him.There are exceptions so I could've just kept him a bear, but Forest Friend Fox had to be a thing. I am astounded they never made a fox Cousin, what's more foresty than a fox? Swift Heart, Bright Heart, and possibly Proud Heart are the only Cousins who make any sense, I mean, sure, Indian lions, elephants, and monkeys live in forests, fair enough, but they still put a sheep, a domestic dog, a domestic pig, a penguin, and a horse in the Forest of Feelings but not a fox? C'mon, at least give 'em a squirrel or badger or something. D:

Been aware of this image for some time, but nothing good or worthwhile came to mind in matters of commentary. This image speaks foremost the heart for obvious reasons, and shares in your feelings of WHY there never was such a Cousin in the family. Probably due to the 80s when foxes were still under scrutiny as being sly, naughty tricksters with bad intentions, whereas the closest was Loyal Heart, for being a domestic canine with all the traits of positive obedience and that virtuous sense of loyalty. How soon do we forget that foxes are some of the most family-oriented species in the wild, practicing lifelong monogamy and dedication to raising the kits well until they are old enough to take care of themselves. What's also pleasing about Forest here is he gives himself extra purpose with his fondness for gardening and loving the forest itself. Funny how the expected heart shape would go into a simple tool like a shovel to further maintain that Care Bear Family atmosphere in their daily lives, to say nothing of the gorgeous background of the forest, though not appearing to be the Forest of Feelings, based on the more realistic, Earth-style imagery of the flora everywhere. Commendable of you to take an original Cousin and make him even better.
