Description
Doctor Whooves: "Lamont Pranceton, wealthy young colt-about-town!"The Shadow: "You know my secret identity? I hope you're one of Marego Lane's friends."
Doctor Whooves: "Ah, not exactly. They call me the Doctor."
The Shadow: "Doctor who?"
Doctor Whooves: "In the ponyverse it's Whooves, actually, but on any other day you'd have been spot on."
The Shadow: "I'm afraid I don't follow."
Doctor Whooves: "Oh, it's not important. I'm a big fan of yours, you know. Granted, I don't much care for guns, brutish things, but we both have a shared disdain for evil." Β
The Shadow: "The weed of crime bears bitter fruit. As you sow evil, so shall you reap evil."
Doctor Whooves: "My thinking exactly! Mind showing me around the city? You see, I was separated from my traveling companion and I'm a bit lost. You may have noticed I'm not from around here."
The Shadow: "Yes, The Shadow knows! Hmhmhmhahahahaha!"
Has anyone else ever noticed how the 4th Doctor looks like an eccentric British grandmother's attic exploded and magically dressed The Shadow? It's not just the clothes either, their faces are similar, too. And they both prefer to rely on cunning and psychological warfare before resorting to violence, although one of the things I always loved about The Shadow was that he never hesitated to kill a villain that didn't come quietly or let it stain his conscience, unlike the Doctor and most every other hero. Never understood that trope. I mean, if someone has done something so horrible that they deserve to be put away for life, why not just kill them? Evidently they're beyond help, just line them up in front of a firing squad and use the surplus taxpayer money to do something useful like cure cancer or plant some forests.
Rambling aside, I'd be amazed if whoever picked out the 4th Doctor's outfit wasn't a Shadow fan. I think if the Doctor combined his off-putting grin with The Shadow's chilling laugh, they'd have some military-grade psyche warfare on their hooves.

IS THAT THE SHADOW! CRISPY, GIRL, YOU HAVE NO IDEA, I AM THE BIGGEST FAN OF THE SHADOW THAT EVER DID LIVE! I didn't think I could love your art more but holy crap, finding another fan of obscure DC titles is like finding a unicorn. Holy hell.Β

Speaking of a grandmother's attic exploding that actually what kinda happened. The producers of the show commissioned this lady to make a scarf for the 4th doctor. So they gave her a bunch of yarn and told her to make something from it. Well the lady didn't have any direction other than colors and knitted the scarf using all the yarn that the producers gave her! When the scarf was completed and given to Tom Baker (actor who played the 4th doctor) he loved it so much that he wouldn't let the producers shorten it. This lady knitted a bunch of scarves varying in length depend on the episode or stunt. The longest one was 24 feet!

Oh, the puns, the puns!
A Dr Who- The Shadow team-up sounds just _lovely_. Oh, the bodycount on that one!
And yes, people do still remember The Shadow. There's an ongoing comic book right now.

Shadow is probably my favourite superhero, and I rarely like those to begin with.
And regarding the semantcs of violence, I remember reading an account about when the Normans mad eit to the island of Sicily, they pretty much found a local population under Islamic invasion sitting in their chairs and getting butchered. And after picking their jaws off the floor and shaking off the initial shock the Normans kicked ass and established a kingdom. Whats the moral? HHumans are not at an evolutionary point yet to be a pacifistic race. Should take about 10 000 years if not more, or an alien menace void of tits we can rally against. But until then, lets go back in time and kill all the Daleks. Here let me do it!

To answer your question about killing someone, Gandalf gave a very sensible response, "Many that live deserve death. Many that die deserve life. Can you give it to them?" It's a matter of who has the responsibility. In the case of the Doctor, he feels that he has no right to take the life of another. But against that discussion of ethics, your artwork here salutes both genres wonderfully with the 4th Doctor meeting the Shadow. Gotta love their contrasting personalities, one cheerful, the other no-nonsense. Amusing bit in how the Shadow acknowledges the Doctor's presence as that of a stranger, to his previous mention of being aware of Pranceton being the Shadow's true name. The Doctor's smile is both endearing and mildly irritating, which suits him well in the face of one like the Shadow. Pranceton would get a little impatient with the Doctor's carefree attitude and tell him to take life more seriously, while the Doctor would tell him to loosen up and have fun moreso. Talk about polar opposites, yet amusingly alike.

I agree muchly about an annoyance with "thou shall not kill" meaning "thou shalt always save the villain from the consequences of their actions and permit threats to the innocent to continue to exist because thou cannot find a way to stop them and cannot bring thyself to find a way to end them permanently" instead of "thou shall not murder", which is the correct translation. If you're not going to kill them, at least find a way to make sure they're never a threat again. Trapping them inside their own head for the rest of their life isn't killing but it's certainly effective.

As you accurately point out, though, if death is not the solution then some other permanent way to stop someone from hurting innocents must be found. The danger with fighting monsters, however, is that one can become a monster oneself without realizing it.Β There is no one so dangerous as the person blinded by their own sense of righteousness.
