Description This is a special version of my older work 'Your Choice'. Its about.. well you know.

One thing i'd like to point out: You may call this a 'propaganda'-piece, so its not meant to be 'fair', its there
to make a point. If someone likes to comment, by all means do so, but please think a little bit about
it before. Thanks.

Update: made a few corrections on the boxes.

Thank you all for your comments and favs.

Hmm interesting , sad too.. actually been away when all this was going on. Joined DA before it happned , and hardly had internet for a while, still submitted art and communicated with freinds who were interested in my art due to costs of internet access.. come back again ..

I like this, but I'd be quick to point out that companies (the fundamental unit of a consumer/enterprise economy) do not usually start out as corrupt and power-mad; most start out with a goal of producing a product that helps people whilst bringing in a livable income (the ideal mom&op operation). The point at which, i believe that companies become the evil entity represented in the picture is when its leaders are no longer held accountable for their decisions and are granted "golden parachutes" ... it's rare but some companies can still do good things. Hate them for whatever they are, but I like starbucks, for example, because they provide health-care to their part-time workers and buy(or at least try to buy) fair-trade/shade grown coffee. The last I heard, this resulted in a large revenue loss for the company. I guess what I'm getting at is that it's not always an either/or decision between companies and community, sometimes, they can work together.

Yellow = Jark. Clever.

This is a briliant way of putting across an important message. The detail and thought you put into the boxes astounds me. Even the smallest touches, such as the Community capsules being twice as large as the Company ones, count in a big way. You are officially damned awesome. Go Community!

The matrix bit was pretty cool, too.

The term "collective rectum" goes back to a joke in the early days of deviantart. (Take a look of the very last line on every dA-page). During the years, this term was often used to descibe the whole "dA-continuum.

You have a future in art communications, this is excellenly done. A picture paints a thousand words, and with a little help from your thought provoking words, you have said volumes.

Now, where do I go from here...?

This gets me thinking about a Flash movie heavily based on The Matrix about human Community-ites versus Corporate machines...with Jark as Neo and Spyed(i think that's his screenname) as Agent Smith...And maybe I could put in the Clock Crew too...for some reason...

choosing community would surely be a mix, because a community this size, cant survive without a company in the background. But it would be the company serving the community and not the other way around.

I hesitate to favourite this, because I argue that it is not simply a battle between company and community here. It is the Company and the Artists that make the community something worth fighting for. Still, thought provoking, I have to say I like it, but to spread something I might disagree with....

I especially like the words down the left edge of the box as well as the ingredients in each box, very clever, but I like DA the way it seems to be to me, still freely available for the community as well as allowing the comminity a place to buy or sell things, in a sense the best of both, I see no reason why the community can't co-exist with the company, but if I had to choose one or the other, I'd choose the community.

Ya know, I don't mean to sound like an ass, but I don't feel the need to take black and white viewpoints on something as trivial as dA's fate in a grand universe where by human standards you are lucky to even have internet compared to starving children in Africa who are lucky to even be alive.

Just felt like saying that, really.

Caring for (globally) less important things, doesnt mean to forget the big issues. People are perfectly capable to do both.
Apart from that, dA is a just a microcosm for what is happening on the world. A quite huge microcosm actually.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LordOfTheSofa In reply to thisign [2005-11-01 14:25:41 +0000 UTC]

Point, I suppose.

Don't mind me. I'm just irritated at the whole dA/Jark/Spyed issue because I suspect there is more to this than just "Spyed screwed over Jark wrongfully". Ergo, I have declined to stay out of it. And STILL hearing this sorta thing going on just makes me vaguely peeved, especially when people could just learn HTML, start their own site, and host their work there, like I'm planning to do, upon which I plan on removing my stuff from dA and linking in my journal to my site, as the paranoia/chaos/drama here is finally starting to grate my nerves.

Reminds me of that pathetic 'look at me' attempt by spyed, in having his little spam message sent to everyones deviant comments area.

How lame was that - well, it was about that time that I notice that girl scout was about eight stories tall and was a crustacean from the protozoic era. I mean, I realised that spyed was a angsty petty teenager caring out his own status and popularity after all his failed works thus far.

Anyway, all history now, but nice work playing on that,

If you join for the community it doesn't necessary mean you support Jark, before Jark was fired he never made any kind of effect on my community life, but the reason why I choose this community is probably because of the company that came with it, if I just wanted to chat with friends then I would never have joined and would be happy with the forums that I visit.

Great piece though, I really liked it, but I got the feeling the like the community better.

Jark is indeed a part of the DA community, but he was never a part of the community I reside in on DA, e.g. He's never affected me or anyone I know on DA, therefore he has never been part of my life.
