She's beautiful.
So glad she found some love at the end of her life. So horrible when people have these animals and neglect them so badly. :[

So sad what Lady went through for 8 years I am glad you made her last month on earth a happy one. I have a memorial section in my group for rabbits we have lost to pay a tribute to them. If you'd like I can put her photo in there.

My alltime favorite breed, and your photo has defiately done them justice
I had a small blue dutch named Gracie who we got from a rescue, she was a runt, with abnormally small ears and one blue eye and one brown eye, she was timid and sometimes aggressive though, because she came from a place she was neglected too, and had been in a fire, she was one of the 40 out of 170 rabbits that survived, but she got bloat a few years ago and passed away, it was a horrible experience.
Bless Lady, she's very beautiful And it makes me smile that you were able to give her such a wonderful life just before she passed away

Thank you very much! I LOVE blue Dutch, my first every bunny was a mismarked blue Dutch called Molly so I have a soft spot for them.

If only cruel people would have to endure the conditions they force on helpless animals, there'd be much less suffering in the animal kingdom. I'm very sorry for your loss of this beautiful creature! And regretful for the suufering she was forced to experience. Hope she is munching in fields of cover in the animal afterlife.

She was. I know, it's so horrible! I wish I could have had rescued her sooner, but at least she spent her last days in a comfortable bed.

That's so sweet~

I saved my Holland Lop from a family of 5 with 2 dogs and 3 cats, where the rabbit was kept in a small metal cage (too small for her) in a garage next to a motorcycle.

Hooray for rabbit rescues~ I love her attentive look! Great picture.

Me too! I have Standard Rex too and I spend ages just feeling their fur!
I would also like to breed Belgian Hares, but I only have enough room for the Rex and English at the moment!

Yes, until you see how bony her body is or the sores along the bottom of her feet. She's improved a lot in the short time I've had her though, right now she is stretched out in the sunshine.

You're welcome The golds look yellow in our photos.. We don't have any blues, though... We have golds, a tortoise (who may or may not be half checkered giant...), chocolates and blacks... And by we, I mean my friend who breeds them.. xD

I like golds, they look really pretty! I would like chocolate Rexes, when I got my blues the breeder showed my her other colours (lilac and chocs) and I was just amazed by the lovely rich colour of the chocolates. I would also like some Tans and Belgian Hares too, maybe one day when I have a barn!

My breeder friends have a shed in their backyard and a lot of outdoor cages that their rabbits are in. Also, their tortoise rabbit is free-range. They don't even have fences around their yard, they just let him out and he doesn't leave the property. That's also how a lot of the babies come into being... He's out at the same time as my doe

GORGEOUS rabbit!

Speaking of which... I have a rabbit, about a year old now. My friend found him running loose in her neighborhood, and he was domestic, but we couldn't find the owner. Anyway, to make a long story short, my mom told me that it's better for him that we let him go when the weather gets warmer. Tell me, is this logical? Will he be able to fend for himself out in the wild? Any advice will be appreciated...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

thisisyesterday In reply to JustERose [2007-03-26 15:05:38 +0000 UTC]

Hi!
Well, I would strongly advise against letting him go! Domestic rabbits are not equipped to cope in the wild, they don't have enough knowlage of predators and their senses are not sharp enough to keep them out of danger. They also don't know what plants and foods are safe for them to eat the way wild rabbits do, and don't have the knowlage to build good warrens for shelter. Rabbits are also very social and even if he did survive he would be lonely (unless of course there are wild rabbits around, which poses other dangers such as attacks/disease). If your mom has your rabbits best interests at heart then letting him go is not an option. If she doesn't want you to keep him I would try and find him a new home.

Good luck!
