First Sight

The sun had just come up, Ruby awoke from her dream, she could hear her sister Aurora downstairs, she was apparently making breakfast.

Ruby walked downstairs, Aurora stood in the kitchen making pancakes.
"Something smells yummy." Ruby said to Aurora in a cheerful tone.
"Good morning, I didn't hear you come down. Slept well?"
"Yeah, I had a nice dream. You?"
"I slept good. What did you dream about?"
"Nature"
"Okay"

Aurora finishes the last pancake, she put it on a plate with the other pancakes and puts the plate on the dinner table.

"Breakfast." said Aurora.

Ruby sat down on one of the chairs, took a few pancakes, and put them on her plate, Aurora joined her. They both began to eat their pancakes with strawberry jam.

After they had each eaten a few.

"Hey sis." said Aurora.
"Yes sis?"
"Did you know Pinkie is going to have a party at Sugarcube Corner later today?"
"She's always having parties."
"Yeah, but do you think you could take some time off from your painting and come?"
"Why do you want me to go?"
"To come out have fun and meet some ponies."

Ruby had a suspicion that with "ponies" Aurora meant stallions.

"What kind of ponies are you talking about?" Ruby asked Aurora.
"Umm... j-just ponies."

Ruby glares at Aurora
"Are you sure?"
"...Y-yes" said Aurora.
"Your lying sucks sis, tell me."
"Okay then...  I was thinking about stallions."
"You're still trying to change my mind?" Ruby said, irritated.
"Well... It couldn't hurt to go out and meet some, could it?"
"No, but it's the fact that you're trying to change my mind that upsets me"
"I'm sorry sis... But I think it would do some good to take a break from painting."
"...fine, but I'm only going for that reason"
"You might even have fun." said Aurora with a smile.
"Yeah, I might even meet a mare." Ruby said with a grin.

Aurora finished her pancakes.
"I need to go to work, can you clean up please?" Aurora asked Ruby
"Sure, say hi to River for me."
"I will. See you later."

Aurora got up, and walked out, Ruby could see her through the window.

"Guess I'm going to the party then"

After cleaning up after breakfast, Ruby decides to walk in the forest for a bit, she finds a tree that looks comfortable, she lies down next to the tree and thinks about tonight.

"Pinkie always makes fun parties... But I had planned on painting a little" Ruby says to herself
"Maybe sis has got a point though, I've been secluding myself in my art room lately, maybe a party will do me good, who knows, I might actually meet someone"

Ruby lets her head rest in the soft grass, thinking of her meeting another mare. It didn't take long before she falls asleep under the tree.

Later, Ruby feels someone laying next to her, she opens her eyes and looks. A light gray earth pony with a long blond mane and tail had laid down next to Ruby and was hugging her, Ruby saw that a piece of the earth pony's ear was missing.

"Um...h-hello?" Ruby said to the pony.
The pony moved, and hugged a little harder.
"W-why are you hugging me?"
The pony open her eyes, she smiles, and begin to rub her face against Ruby's.
"W-who are you, w-why are you rubbing my face..."

The pony begins to to sing a tune.  It starts out happy, then gets sadder the longer the earth pony sang, but before she finished her tune it gets happy and cheerful.

"O-ok...my names Ruby Wings, what's yours?"
The earth pony sings two notes that ruby recognized as Ta-aa.
"Nice to meet you Ta-aa, why are you snuggling with me?"
Ta-aa smiles, and keeps rubbing her head against Ruby.
Ruby rubs her head back, not really knowing what's happening, she starts going back to sleep when she remembers about the party. She stands up.
Ta-aa looks at her, with her ears a bit down.
"Sorry, but I have to go, it was nice meeting you Ta-aa."
Ta-aa nods, and smiles.
Ruby walks away, heading for Sugarcube Corner.

Ruby was late to the party. She could see there was a lot of ponies there, Lyra and Bonbon were dancing with each other, Aurora talking with River and Pinkie jumping around. Ruby saw Aurora say something like "Just a minute." to River before she walked over to Ruby.

"I thought you had gone and hidden yourself." said Aurora.
"Well I didn't, one party won't hurt."
"I'm glad, I think its good for you to get out and have some fun."

Ruby walks around, looking at all the ponies at the party, Ruby already knew most of them, she walked to a table where there was food and punch.  Ruby took some muffins and punch, found somewhere to sit and began to eat while she looked at the dance floor.  Thinking if this would be a waste of her time, after a bit, she was thinking of leaving when she saw a pale orange mare sitting by herself.

'I don't think I have seen her before. Wonder if she is new here.' thought Ruby.

Ruby decided to go and talk to her, she finished her muffin, and punch, got up and walked to the pale orange mare.

"Hello, you look lonely, care to dance?"  Ruby said to the mare, and held out her hoof for her.
The mare looked at Ruby before she said, "I would love to." The mare took Ruby's hoof.
Ruby took her over to the dance floor.

"Can you lead?" asked the mare
"I can."

They danced for a bit, Ruby was happy.  She was dancing with a beautiful mare, she had thought it would just be a waste of time, but she was actually having fun.

"Do you come here often?" asked the pale orange mare.
"No." Ruby replied.
"I'm Gold Star, who are you?"
"My names Ruby Wings, but I usually go by Ruby."
"Nice to meet you Ruby." Said Gold with a smile.
"Nice to meet you too Gold." Ruby smiles back at her.

Ruby looks at Gold,
'She's kinda cute' Ruby thinks to herself

"So why were you sitting by yourself?" Ruby asked her.
"Nopony asked if I wanted to dance... A friend convinced me to come."
"Well I asked you to dance, I hope you don't mind dancing with a mare." Ruby said with a smile.
"Not at all." Said Gold, and smiled.
"My sister convinced me to come, she wants me to find a nice stallion, but it won't work."
"Why won't it work?"
"Because... I like mares."
"Okay, it's kind of like my friend, she wants me to have some fun, and maybe find a stallion."
"Well I'm having fun, I hope you are too."
"I am." Said Gold, and smiled again.

Gold looked a bit concerned. She looked at Rubys scarred eye.

"Something wrong?" Ruby asked her.
"Hmm... Can we find somewhere private?"
"Sure."

They walked off the dance floor, and searched for a room, they eventually found one that was empty and private.  They go in and close the door behind them, Ruby felt nervous.

'She is really cute, and... I'm alone in a room with her... I'd better not do anything too hasty.' Ruby thinks to herself.

Gold closed the door behind them, and turned to Ruby.

"M-may I ask you something?" asked Gold.
"Sure, what do you want to ask about?"
"Hmm... Your scars, and dark blue eye." Said Gold a bit nervously.
"Oh, that, I got them from when I was protecting my sister, Aurora, when we were fillies."
"Oh... d-do you see with..." Gold didn't finish that sentence.
"I can, but it's colour blind in that eye."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that... I know how it is getting hurt like that." Gold's tone became sad.
"R-really?"
"Y-yes... I a-also tried to protect a friend when I was a filly... But it didn't end so well for me."
"What happened?"
"Do you know what a cyborg is?"
"No, what's a cymorg?"
"Cyborg" Gold corrected, "Its a... well its a creature that uses mechanical parts."
"M-mechanical parts?" Said Ruby confused.
"How about if I show you?..."
"U-um... o-ok?"

Gold took off the foreleg-bracelet she had on, and put it on a table.  Ruby could see a line that it had concealed. Then Gold bite the tip of her right hoof, and pulled. It looked like her coat just came off, but under it.... it was a leg, made out of shiny, and dark gray metal.  Gold put the fake coat sock on the table.

"When I t-tried to protect m-my friend... I g-got a-attacked and... lost my right foreleg." said Gold.
"W-what the? i-is that a..."
"Yes... It's a mechanical leg."
"W-wow..."
"H-hope you a-aren't s-scared..."
Ruby could hear that Gold was worried.
"I'm not" Ruby smiles at Gold.
"I-is  it?"
"Is your leg scary? no."

Gold walked to Ruby and hugged her, Ruby could feel the hard and cold leg against her coat, Ruby hugged back.

"T-thank you." said Gold.
"Your welcome" Ruby said with a smile.
Gold backed away, "S-sorry. I c-can be a bit o-over emotional when it comes to my leg."
"It's ok."

"I-it was the same friend that I tried to protect t-that convinced me to come here." Gold said
"OK, do you want to go back to dancing, or talk some more?" Ruby asked her
"Go back to dancing, I'll just put these on again."

Gold put the sock, and foreleg-bracelet back on, before they walked out to the dance floor.
Ruby holds out her hoof for gold, Gold was just about to grab it when they heard a voice.

"Gold!"

Ruby looks towards where the voice came from.

Ruby sees a light blue unicorn, with a long mane and tail, she was a bit taller than Ruby.

"Oh, hello." Said the unicorn, Ruby got the impression that this was a unicorn you didn't want to catch on her bad side.

"H-hi...I'm Ruby Wings."
"I'm Nightnova, nice to meet you Ruby Wings."
"Likewise, and I usually just go by Ruby."
"My apologies."

Nightnova looked at Gold.

"My train leaves soon so I must go."
"Okay, I'll follow you, then I need to get Shattered from Fluttershy's." said Gold.

Gold turned to Ruby.

"I'm sorry Ruby. But I need to go... it was nice dancing with you."
"Its OK, I had fun dancing with you, hope I see you around" Ruby smiles at Gold.
"I hope so too." said Gold.

Ruby saw how Gold, and Nightnova walked out from the party, she had a strange feeling her her stomach.

'Hope we meet again Gold' Ruby thought to herself as she watches Gold walk away
