(f/n) couldn’t recall how long she had been in King Thranduil of Mirkwood’s jail; it was undoubtedly months are this point. Her dress was wearing thin at the hem, her hair was disgusting mess and she was horribly underfed. But at least she was alive, those nasty spiders nearly had her as a meal and now she was safer here then outside. The evil was growing, she could feel it in her bones.

One day while she slept a mass of dwarves were marched into the jail and locked up just next to her. She awakened to their complaining, as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes and shuffled up to the bars a little Halfling appeared before her. He didn’t notice her startled expression as he continued on down to his comrades behind bars. After some short whispering that (f/n) couldn’t quite decipher the Halfling went passed her cell again. “Halfling! Wait… please…” Bilbo stopped as did the words being exchanged by the dwarves so they could hear her better. “I have been in here for many, many days. What season is it?”

“Its, uh…. Hard to tell in this forest…” Bilbo looked over at the shell of a woman, his heart sunk looking in at her pale, thin form with large yet sunken eyes. “I’m sure I can find out for you.”

“No, no. It’s fine… You don’t need to do that.” She smiled sadly and let the hobbit go on his way. With a loud sigh she went to lay down again only to hear the dwarves speaking to her.

“Ay, lass. What’s your name?” One asked, she could place where the voice had come from but desperate for more contact than what she got she returned to her cell door.

“My name is (f/n) (l/n). Who are all of you?” She asked, trying to get a better look of the people she was talking too.

“We are Thorin Oakenshield and Company.” The same voice provided, the continued this pleasant small talk till (f/n) lost her energy and fell asleep against the bars of her cell. She awoke when Bilbo’s small hand shook her gently, her fluttered open and she glanced at the Halfling.

“Here,” He thrust his hand through the bars and dropped into her open hands a piece of bread. “I’m Bilbo, by the way…”

“Thank you, Master Bilbo, I’m (f/n) (l/n). But you better go, they come here around this time on patrol and you don’t want to end up in one of these cells.” (f/n) shooed Bilbo away just in time to keep him out of the hands of elven guards. Over the next few days Bilbo and (f/n) grew close, he would bring her food and speak with her and she worked her hardest to keep him safe and give him the information he needed. One day though, it came to an end; Bilbo ran passed her cell with the guard’s keys and began unlocking the doors of his companions. As he went to pass (f/n)’s cell she called out to him “Bilbo, wait! Please, take me with you.” Bilbo stopped and looked at her, her large eyes begging him to allow this, he glancing at Thorin who seemed indifferent to it and then unlocked the door. (f/n) shot out of the cell and followed the dwarves and her savior into the wine cellar and hesitantly got into a barrel as instructed.

Set free the journey down the river was exciting and horrifying, when they finally crawled out of their improvised boats and onto dry land, (f/n) went over to Bilbo and wrapped him in her arms. “Thank you Master Bilbo. Thank you.” She kissed his cheek softly, turning the hobbit a bright shade of red, before standing up and looking at the sun and sky above. A large smile on her face, Bilbo looked at the human girl and smiled, but that smile did not last long as the twins still found time to waltz over and tease him about his little crush.
