Description Slave River Rapids, Northwest Territories

I was driving home from work Friday morning after the Thursday night night-shift, and noticed a tower of fog billowing out of the rapids - could be seen over houses and trees. I was drawn to it, and after stopping home to get my camera, I ventured out in the -10oC morning air and had a great session! It was ethereal and beautiful out there. Tired when I got home, though. Tonight I will try to process more from this morning - there's a few cool ones!

This has had an "orton effect" applied (obvious)

I've shot this location to death, yet somehow I don't get bored by it. A very dynamic place!

I used 4-5 stops of Lee ND soft grad filters if I remember right. I have 6 stops in total of ND soft. I'm currently using CS5.

It's hot and humid where I am so it's nice to get the sensation just by looking at the photo so thanks.

Do you think the sky looks too dark?

Not really. But my focus was automatically drawn to the water and the chilly looking stone more than the sky. The dark blue still has a nice contrast to the orange.

the water is so thick, yet fluid, it almost looks like liquid mercury :3

When I was walking there, the river did look as if it was somehow moving slowly, or as if the water had gotten thicker. I wonder if that's because of the below zero temperatures or if it was just an illusion...Either way, cool effect!
