CGW 2 'Geoff' was built in 1968 and came to Sodor the same year as he was built by BR's Crewe Works. Not much is known about 'Geoff' but his claim to fame was helping NWR No.5 'James' after his filler cap was frozen due to a full amount of water at the water tower at Crovans Gate station in 1980. And with that the water injector, which feeds water from the feed pipe to the boiler had failed. Geoff came to rescue the red engine and it was at that moment that James had befriended Geoff and knew that diesels can be useful too, prior to his frozen water event, James had been very judgemental about diesel engines, with the exception of BoCo, Mavis etc.

Another bit of fame was that he appeared in 'Thomas & The Missing Christmas Tree' delivering a Christmas tree, which happened in 1985 and was published in 1986 by the Thin Clergyman's son, Christopher, with liberities made since it was adapted for the television series' second series. However, not much else had happened to Geoff in terms of fame but he was rather happy with not being in the limelight.
